Discounts/Free BAs for Military??

I have a friend whose sister is a nurse and she was telling me that military and their spouses can receive extreme discounts or even FREE BAs. Is this true?? Can anyone with military background give me their experience with this? It sounds too good to be true...Thanks!

Interesting concept. Looking forward to seeing the responses on this one. I know that most medical professionals receive a discount from PSs but I dont know about military persons.

I do remember someone posting (don't remember who though) who said that during the consult with her husband and PS it came out in conversation that her husband was deploying soon and the PS did give them a discount as a thank you for their service.

My PS gave me a discount because my husband is an active duty service member/veteran as a token of his appreciation for his sacrifice. It was something that was completely unexpected. I know a few years ago, military medical insurance used to cover everything except the implants for BAs. But not anymore. But I am getting a tummy tuck free because I have had two children and I need the muscle repair. Supposedly they have requirements at least 2 children and not planning on anymore pregnancies.

I'm a military wife... I got mine done in June 2010.
I whent in and asked tricare about it and they said that they need a refferal from my regular dr..(not ps). So I made an apt and they will only give a refferal if there is a medical or psychological condition to why you need them.
A friend of mine got an approval but had to first go to a psychologist.
I did however get a pretty good discount from my ps (my husband is also currently deployed).

I researched this extensively. What I found was that "free" wasn't realistic and unless it was a breast reduction, Tricare wouldn't cover it.
BUT, I need get a discount at consultations. Usually $1000-2000 depending upon the doctor.

There is a PS in California that offers a military discount and it is on his web site - but that's far for you! : ) Dr. Pousti. I thought that was kind of his office to do that.

No military doesn't give free breast augmentations from what i know unless it's a medical problem as to why you need it. Some PS do however give military discounts. I got one from my PS.

I got a discount for being a nurse and I didn't know until I went for my consult so it was a pleasant surprise.

I am a military wife and know women who have received "free" BA's. They signed up to have the procedures performed by military doctors who need to log surgery hours to keep their plastic surgery qualifications.

It's not guaranteed that you'll get one if you sign up b/c I think the wait list is generally pretty long. I chose not to go this route (didn't even consider it really) because I would rather pay and have a doctor who performs the procedure regularly.

They're not bad doctors, I just wanted the option to choose my doctor.

This is 100% correct. The other way is through tricare is you have a serious mental health issue. It is easier to pay yourself and less time consuming. I have a friend that got a reduction paid for by tricare and it took over a year for it to happen.

I got a discount on my surgeon's fees. I also paid for my BA with the extra money I earned while deployed.

Exclamation

I am an army wife and my BA was completely FREE. Although this is only because a got a referral from my Primary Care Physician to see a PS. I have a breast disease that caused a deformity in my breast where i had prior breast surgeries. I ended up lop-sided my doc sympathized with my condition and offered it as a reconstructive surgery. you maybe able to do this if you have no breast tissue or little. Or if you are like me and are two different sizes. i Hope this helps.

I don't know how it would be if a military Dr that needs log hours uses you to practice on............if he botched it would there be any recorse? I am sure that you would have to sign release from liability forms, the military likes to do that!
Just pay and ask for a discount it is much easier and you will feel better about the service you are getting.

I am a military wife and I remember my husband mentioning this once. What scared me is that I think, not absolutely sure, that you didn't have full control over what PS you got to choose. I think you might have to go to a military hospital. Not absolutely sure. No offense to military docs or people who have had procedures at military hospitals, but NO THANKS!

I agree I would be wary of physicians practicing on me. Especially in the boobie region. The only reason I'm doing the tummy tuck through the military is because it's getting taken care of at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. It's where our US Presidents go to be treated. Plus this is where plastic surgery originated. I have had both my children there and it's the only place that I will have serious medical procedures done through the Navy. Fortunately our home of record is 20 minutes from the hospital so I can go there no problem. It's a teaching hospital, but I have always been given the choice to have students participate or even be present. You just have to ask questions and be your own advocate.

my husband is active duty and he is currently deployed to iraq.. i got my breast augmentation almost a month ago and i was given a military discount. i dont remember if its 10% or 15% off .. i got mine done in reno Nevada and there is no army base here. I picked out my own doc and didnt go thru tricare or anything. i got approved for carecredit and is financing thru them. just happend to ask the person doing my paperwork at the doc office that my husband is in the military and if they had any kind of military discount. Im not sure if all surgeons offer this but it wont hurt to ask

I know Australian military members can get free breast augmentations. Suppose to increase confidence.
