Question How Long Did it Take to Save the $$$ Money $$$ for a BA??

Hey all! I plan on getting a BA next summer, and I initially lazily decided, "Oh...I'll just pay for it with the loans I will be getting for school." But, I'm looking at the total amount of debt I will be racking up for my last year in college, and let's just say...it ain't too pretty.

I want to try and go the saving route, but I'm afraid I won't be able to save enough in time. How long did it take you, if you did the saving route...and could you offer some tips/suggestions? I will do just about anything...well, almost anything... nothing involving a pole and stilettos LOL

Thanks in advance!!

it took me 6months of a very tight saving regime, it's gonna be worth it all in the end though!

I haven't saved up all of the money yet, but I pretty much just took a look at what I spend money on that I don't necessary need at that particular time. I spend LOTS and LOTS of money on clothes and shoes so I decided to cut back some and put that money towards my BA

I used part of my school refund check, and am in the process of saving up too. I should reach the max amount I need by the end of this month and I plan on scheduling my surgery hopefully wihin the next two weeks. Maybe you should think about doing the same, hope your saving goes well!

It's taken me 8 months to save $4000. My balance right now is $5550 (put 200 down to book surgery). I'm putting the whole amount on my CareCredit card at my pre-op and paying it off over 12 months - getting the no interest 12 month thing. Hoping my credit jumps even higher by doing it this way!

Figure out a conservative amount you can spare each month, its ok if its not very much. Each month put that amount of cash in an envelope. Put pics/clippings of boobs you like in the envelope too, that way if you're tempted to raid it for something else you'll have an instant reminder of why you wanted to save it. When you get birthday/christmas money, sell a used textbook or get a rebate from some purchase that all goes in the envelope too. If an envelope isn't your thing a savings account works fine, just don't mix it with the other money in your checking account. If you're crafty consider selling small items on etsy. If you're good at social networking & makeovers consider sell avon or mary kay. How long it's going to take to save up will be a combination of how much you're regularly putting aside each month, how much extra you're able to bring in & how well you're able to resist spending it on other stuff.

It took me about 6 months to save it all safely. I have the worst spending habits and I always have cash on me and I live right in the middle of downtown so it flys out of my pockets everyday. Just think of all the things you spend money on but don't need, and put that away for boobs. Try to have a monthly savings goal. And if you slip up one month, catch up next month. Good luck girly!

Thanks for all the great tips! I am absolutely HORRIBLE at not eating out. I do it all the time, and I love to shop! It's going to be really hard, but I know the end result will be so worth it...I will probably have to get a second job....I hear waitressing is pretty decent with quick income...so we shall see :-)

Passion will become famous soon enough
I'm also a recent college grad and in order to pay for my surgery I've been hardcore saving since high school and I graduated in 2005. As I'm sure you know being a student is costly and unexpected costs come up so I would say just put a little away every month and don't touch it unless it's an emergency. It may take a while but it's doable
