Hair breaking off in clumps? has this happened to anyone? what should I do or use?

Hello ladies, I am having major hair breakage issues, I have beautiful hair, but on the right back side of my head underneath I have about a handfull of har alot shorter than the rest of my hair from breakage, and its freakking me out!... I have a really good ceramic dryer, i forget the name but i spent a good $70.00 dollars on it and my curling iron is the same brand and also ceramic... I wash and blow dry every 3 to 4 days, I dont dye my my hair and I use good shampoo and conditioner's, and also a heat protectant by redken, before blow drying... I think I am doing all the right things, what else can I use to reduce this major breakage, I dont want to have to chop off all of my hair becuase of major breakage, I have it about 2 inches passed my shoulders and where the breakage is, I am left with 3 inches of hair from the scalp... should I start taking biotin and I have heard of horsetail as well to help my hair keep growing and stay healthy?

Just read a post a few days ago about taking Biotin, 5000ml a day. Also everybody raves about, and I agree, Moroccan Oil. Some people here have also used Bio Oil.

DEEP CONDITON every week with a Contitioner with Protein..GOOD LUCK!

Liquid Silicea by Hubner.. I will rave about this to anyone who will listen! lol my hair's actually growing at a decent rate now... Also I've heard Biotin does the same thing, I haven't tried that though. Do a deep conditioner, and after a few deep conditioning treatments, do a protein mask.. you can grab those at your local drugstore or Walmart. The ones I have are "VO5 Hot Protein" they come in 3 little packets that you put in hot water, take out, open & leave in your hair for a bit... they really helped with my bleach-induced breakage!

Red face

A lady on here actually recommended Hubner's Liquid Silicea. I have yet to try it. Money is an issue right now. But I'm DYING to try it. I have some stuff ending soon on ebay so with that money I'm *hoping* I'll have some money to spend on it. I have read sooo so many reviews. http://www.silicea.com/en/?

I currently mix Amla oil and Coconut oil on my hair. I read that Coconut oil is the only oil with a molecular structure small enough to penetrate the hairs shaft. If you do want to use coconut oil, make sure you use virgin. I have great results with it. I also use extra virgin olive oil on occasion.

Edit.. I typed this out about an hour ago and didn't realize I didn't press submit. I see someone already suggested liquid silicea by the time I had finally submitted. :-))))

I'm sure you could find it online somewhere reputable, I personally get mine from a local health food store. Check your phone book and see if there's any places around you that might have it. It's nasty, but it does work (for me at least, I realize everyone's different when it comes to these things!), I just wish I'd taken a 'before' picture! lol It's about $25 for a month supply, if you take a little less you can make it last a little longer!

EDIT: Like LoveBunny said, coconut oil is also amazing on hair! I can't believe I forgot to recommend that, I'm really tired & not thinking straight right now! lol I use it all the time. Also, once a week I wet my hair, run coconut oil through it, and then I put a shower cap on for a deeper treatment. Makes your hair sooo soft!

Ok follow up on the treatment...This really works! again its called aphogee 2 step protien treatment, and it should only be used for severly damaged hair that is breaking alot, like mine in clumps.... after i did the treatment i blow dried my hair and it feels amazing! I also usually find alot of hair on the floor after blow drying and on the sink...NOT EVEN A STRAND! this is to be used once every 6 weeks.. I think i am going to use the k pack protien deep conditoing treatment once a week, i have heard alot of great things about that product and this treatment every 6 weeks, along with vitamins for my hair like horsetail and biotin... I will follow up with every one on this in the next couple of months to let you know how it turned out for me... My mission is to get my long hair back....Hope this works!

Ion also makes a deep conditioning protien packet they you can get at Sally's. Just remember there is such a thing as too MUCH of a good thing. If your hair is tangled when it's wet, and knots up easily when you brush it out BEFORE it's dry - that's when your hair needs protien. If your hair breaks off really easily AFTER it's been dried, then your hair is too dry and it needs moisture. Too much protien (when it's not what your hair needs) will cause it to become brittle and break more.

FYI - I have have the same issues - some sections of my hair break off much easier than the rest of my head. It really just depends on the individual hair follicals and the condition of your scalp- your scalp may have some weak/unhealthy parts to it, thus the life of the hair is going to be shorter.

Smile A tip for Scalp

It's funny you mentioned about the SCALP. People seem to forget that the scalp is a very important part of hair health. My Italian Mom used to heat a spoon of Olive Oil (Italians use Olive Oil for everything, like the Greeks use Windex, LOL!!!) over the gas stove, and rub it deep into her scalp before she washed her hair. She always had the most beautiful healthy hair and shiny hair.

Interesting too, my BF's Mom always used to say when they were kids, "Go wash your 'Scalp', not the normal, 'go wash your hair'! At the time I couldnt understand why she said that.

I always rinse my scalp with warm/hot (I looove hot water even though warm is better) water in the shower really well, as I rub my finger tips and message my scalp while rinsing at the same time. That's where most of the debree' sits before it goes down your strands. That way I don't have to use unneeded shampoo-my hair is naturallly curly and dry, so too much shampoo is not good. Then I'll repeat the same step with a conditioner instead of shampoo and rinse out throughly. I do still use shampoo sometimes though, but I get the kind without Sulfates.

Maybe I could do the same thing with the Coconut Oil!?

I got the Aphogee Two-step Protein Treatment today at Sally's. I got it in a 4oz bottle. I also bought the Shampoo for damaged hair. I asked the lady there if I needed anything else, and she said no. I guess she didnt know I need the Balancing Moisturizer for after I rinse out the Two-Step.

Is that what you did?? How long did you keep the Two-Step on before it hardened? Did you sit under a dryer?

I have to go back and get that Moisurizer before I do it!

I got the Aphogee treatment as a two for one deal a while ago. You're supposed to sit under a dryer or use a hand held until it hardens. It usually takes quite a while with a hand held dryer. It's quite tedious. I usually do it for about 20 minutes then quit and leave it on for another hour. It is REALLY sticky and messy. I suggest putting it on while you're naked because it can get all over the back of your shirt or run down to the towel if you're wearing one. Then again, I'm a complete mess. LOL! After putting it on and cleaning up your neck you can wrap a towel or robe around you.

Yes the moisturizer is very very very important! you must use that after you wash out the protien......I just put the protien in my hair and used a hand dryer on medium heat and dried my whole head of hair till every strand was very very hard...

Going out to get the conditioner.

Thanks so much for the tips on using the Aphogee Two-step Protein Treatment. I am about to run out and get the Conditioner now. I also was thinking about getting the 2 minute moisturizer. I am going to check out the price first.

I'm having a similar breakage problem with my hair because I died it blonde. I use dove shampoo for dry/damaged hair, the conditioner and shampoo and it makes my hair feel like butter no joke! It`s not that expensive either which is good because I always run out of shampoo.

You could also give yourself an at home deep conditioning treatment with all natural stuff, and it will work. Like someone else previously stated putting oil in your hair works, so does butter, and I`ve also heard egg is a good deep conditioner. You obviously won`t put them all in your hair, pick one let it sit on your hair for awhile them wash thoroughly! HTH!
