Large Breast Implants This forum will be for discussing implants that are 700cc or larger. Although 700cc may not seem large to some, they are, generally, considered a larger size.

Don't let it get you down. There are a lot of surgeons who simply aren't comfortable working with larger implants. Some let their personal taste sway what they are willing to work with and they like less large breasts. Some simply haven't had the experience working enough with larger implants to feel comfortable doing so - and you really do want someone who is very skilled doing this because there is extra skill and work involved in placing larger implants. The extra work comes three parts (at least, I am probably forgetting some of them that my doctor mentioned to me):

1) there is extra cutting of the muscle and tissue, which means you have to be much more precise in what you are doing - overdissection can occur and if it does you could end up with symmastia (!)
2) the placement with larger implants matters more, because there is not as much space for the implant to move in - the larger the implant the more precise the placement needs to be.
3) there is a higher risk for complications and there will be a larger scar, etc - lots of communication between doctor and patient - potentially re-dos if something was not done just right, or even if it is done right, something still goes wrong (it can, and sometimes does, happen).

As to the judgements comment, I think he was just trying to let you know that he wasn't judging you for wanting a "larger than normal" implant. And, while 600cc, 700cc, etc. doesnt sound that large to many of us, it is larger than the "norm". I think he meant it in a positive way to let you know that he felt it was fine that you want what you want (which of course it is, silly man), but that he just couldn't help you out with it. I would also call and find out why he wouldn't go above that size on you - if it's some kind of physical limitation or if it's just aesthetic.

Best of luck in your hunt, hon, and don't give up.

I would want to know if he saw something in your anatomy/skin that told him you weren't a good candidate for larger implants, or if he just doesn't "approve" of them aesthetically/ethically.

I went on 5 consults, and the 1st one was with a very experienced, well reviewed plastic surgeon who wouldn't go above 350cc's on me. He said the same thing..."if you want bigger than that, then I'm the wrong surgeon for you." I admired his ethics, sticking to his guns over making $$$ off of me, but the other 4 all said I could go to the size I have now because they'd gotten that big before, from pregnancy/nursing.

I would call and ask why he said that, and then schedule at least 3 more consults to see if there's a consensus about size limitations for your body.

Google "plastic surgery town you want" and pour over the results to find surgeons that have lots of experience, are board certified in plastic surgery, and choose 3 - 5 to consult with. Once you've had the consults, decide which you're really leaning towards, and check on their background, certifications, disciplinary actions if any, etc...
No, he didn't specifically say why he wouldn't do the larger implants, but I suppose the meaning of his phrase "I don't do those kinds of implants" was clear enough to me. I guess I felt a little bit like he was looking down on my desire to go larger by inferring he wasn't "that" kind of surgeon. Maybe I'm being defensive, but I felt bad. I ended up putting the photos I'd brought along with me away because it was clear he wasn't going to help me.

I appreciate your input about admiring your first candidate's willingness to stick to his guns rather than take your money by doing something he didn't want to do. Maybe I should view this surgeon in the same light and move on.

I took your advice about searching for the plastic surgeons in my city, and my plan is to set up two or three more consultations in the next week or two. Tomorrow I'm going to begin calling the doctors on my list, and my first question will be, "Does your practice handle large implants?" Why bother meeting with a given surgeon if he or she won't even consider doing what I want done.

Thanks a lot for your input.

Thanks very much for the three points you made above. I didn't really have a good grasp of how larger implants affected the body, so that was informative. From my simplistic way of looking at it I thought they were about the same as smaller implants.

As for the surgeon's judgment comment, I guess you had to be there. There was a bit of a patronizing tone in his voice. I don't know, maybe it's just me.

I think I'll let the surgeon in the next consultation tell me if there's a physical reason why I can't go large. I'm not sure I could go back to the first one at this point. Too negative of an experience.

I'll update as I go further into this process. And I won't give up!

Well, sometimes I see things as offensive when others might not mean them to be, so I always try to tell myself it's not meant that way. Sometimes, though, it is - and if that is the attitude the doctor was giving, then you don't need him. He really should try to be more professional.

Keep looking, I am sure you will find someone skilled who can give you what you want.

You'll know the right one when you are comfortable with being honest (without them passing judgement), and you aren't afraid to show them the pictures. Well, that and they can show you pictures of larger breast augmentations they have done in the past (and they are lovely results).

Smile going for the 700 myself

I am 5 days from my mommy make over - that is if my cold goes away. I am a little nervous about my choice of 700cc. Right now I am about a 36 D but I am having a lift too anyone have any thoughts oh how "large" (cup size) I might end up? my 36D are terribly saggy so i think with the lift they will be much smaller?? looking forward to the new me without all the extra skin!!!

You Go Girl

It's ok to feel nervous but there is also a lot of exitement and expectations. Well worth the pain and effort if done properly.

You already have a lot of breast flesh so even with a lift there is still a lot of space left.

I wish you all the best. If you are nervous about the size or have the option to choose, tell the plastic surgeon to go for the larger size. You won't regret it. You get use to the large ladies real quick, the only difference is they sit higher up on your chest.

Big are on their way real soon.
