Again, this will not be my only consult, just my first one. Thanks so much for your input! I'm not into the celeb Doc thing at all...its just easier for me, because I've seen so much of his work on TV, and here on the board and have yet to hear a complaint. I too am in the industry, I've been designing custom lingerie, corsets and costumes for 17 years. I've worked with everyone from playmates and Hef's girlfriends to Brittany Spears and Dolly Parton. So...let's say I've been boob shopping for awhile now..LOL! I've seen the good, bad and ugly breast augmentation's in all thier naked glory..amongst quite a few other cosmetic procedures. One thing I need to address is that I think, no matter how good the surgeon, it also depends on body type. I think one has to come to terms about what they can expect from their surgery, given the fact that they are say...broad ribcage, or boney chested, or a bit older...etc. I've spent a lot of time contemplating what my results will be, with what God has given me to work with. That being said...I'm ready to do this!!!!! Thanks again for all of your replies...it really means so much to me!!!

Almost all states require that doctors are board certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties to have access to any hospitals or surgical centers. It is the law. California I guess is not one of these states, so you have more surgeons there who are not certified. This is in no way meant to disparage Dr. Rey in any way. His work looks great! It is just that I know what certification means, and have seen what it takes first hand from my husband. It is a very hard process, but it is supposed to be that way.

Wow...what a heated topic. Of course, board certification is important, but even board certification doesn't guarantee that that a plastic surgeon will practice with skill and/or ethics, a key component of any profession, including my own. I have a code of ethics and legal mandates I need to follow. I can pass a test on it and be licensed and do the classes necessary to keep my licensure, but if I don't follow it in my day-to-day practice, what good is it? I think this is an important issue also. This is why word of mouth is so important...finding others who have had a good experience with a surgeon and have had similar work done as you. You just have to do some research, and even then, you're not necessarily protected. I don't know if anyone else would find this link of interest, but if you're in Orange County, California (or nearby) and you want to look up information on someone, you can go to www.occourts.org. It will show malpractice cases, legit or not. It has civil, criminal and other info. It's interesting. Currently, people who look me up can see that I went to traffic school for running a red light and that I filed for divorce a few years ago.

Thank you so much Becky for your response. This was the same point I think I tried to make several times throughout this thread, and basically I gave up. lol.. I have friends who searched high and low, found a board certified and their experiences were horrible. Just aweful One ended up with a full reconstructive redo from the mistakes of a board certified Dr. So anyhow, without going in deep again - I wanted to say thank you for your response and I truly agree with your points. My PS I personally met him with a friend who used him and saw her through her breast augmentation process and was completely impressed and it left an great impression that I knew Id go to him for sure. And still am very proud of who I chose, my results and the morals and ethics of my PS. Word of mouth is important! For all Plastic Surgeons - certified or not. I think thats why JBI is such a great site, girls who dont know any PS or where to start can really find great doctors from the ladies on this site. All of the woman are very helpful! I think the very skilled, professional, and surgeons of great ethics and morals are lucky to have this site - cause the woman who love them and their results will definitely share and send more patients their way. Thanks again Becky! Quote:

It's definitely true that just finding a board-certified plastic surgeon doesn't guarantee you a good experience. Not at all. But it's the minimum requirement I would start with while searching for a plastic surgeon. Like if you want to hire a lawyer, you start with people who are fully accredited and have their law degrees. That doesn't mean anyone who has a law degree is a good lawyer. But it's where you start. And from there, you work on your search to make sure the doctor you choose (and his staff and office) has all the characteristics you would want in a high quality, fully certified plastic surgeon. Stuff like a professionally-run office, high quality before/after work pictures that you like, a doctor who listens and understands what you want, etc etc etc.

If I was starting from "scratch" I would have definitely started there as well. I definitely agree, that - that is a perfect and ideal starting point. Just for some not necessary if they have friends that have used a particular surgeon and had great results. Or previously seen a surgeon etc. I guess it depends on the woman, and where they are starting. Some go to one recommended, some start at the board certified list. Some start there and still have several consultations. But yes Chic I agree with you, I would have definitely started there if I was starting from scratch! With a little help from the JBI ladies too, since most of us have great recommendations for Plastic Surgeons. Quote:

I wanted to use Dr. Rey but i am not from Cali, i don't Beverly Hills area so went somewhere close to home. But i think all his work looked perfect not just good..... i would choose experience and happy customers over board-certified but that's just me, but i can understand why it's important to many.

One of the things I've heard (may not be true) is that he does not meet the criteria of doing surgery in an accredited surgery facility. (i.e. he has his own surgery center vs. hospital of the boards chosing.) Once again not sure if it's true! |
