Silicone or Saline?
Hey girls,
I'm trying to decide between silicone and saline. I want the least risky option. The one with the least chance of CC, rippling, bottoming, leaking etc. What do you have? Do you have any complications? Would you do things differently the next time? What do you think? Luisa x x |

I think there's more risk of cc with silicone, but more risk of rippling with saline, not sure about bottoming , i think thats down to luck or unluck, and leaking, im not sure about saline, although it shouldnt harm you, there's absolutely no risk whatsover of leakage with silicone, it stays intact. I think there is an issue of unders/overs with some of your q's too, although im not sure of them either. ive got silicone overs, and im ok so far with them, apparantly, the silicone are a more natural feel than saline |

I'm getting silicone co gel.
There's heaps of info on the main site about pros and cons of each: http://www.justbreastimplants.com/implants/silicone.htm http://www.justbreastimplants.com/implants/saline.htm Personally, I'm getting silicone because they feel more natural (important to me because I don't have much breast tissue to begin with) and saline can cause noticible ripples (again, a worry for me with little breast tissue - ripples would be noticible on me). The new silicone cohesive gel implants don't leak if they rupture because they are the consistency of turkish delight - so they just hold their shape. Silicones have a slightly higher rate of CC too. If a saline implant breaks it will usually noticably deflate and you can tell pretty much straight away. Both have positives and negatives, it's really up to the individual and their PS. Also keep in mind that silicone isn't readily available in the US (only to those in a study), so that will affect poll results. Also, it's not just the type of implant filling that affects the chance of complications. For example, textured implants have a slightly higher rupture rate than smooths, and placing the implant under the muscle instead of over reduces the risk of CC.

The co-gels were the only ones my PS used as far as I know. Can you actually get Saline in the UK?

I'm not sure but I think we can get saline in the UK.
I do quite fancy the cohesive gel ones - they're the gummy bear ones, right? I think I read that they need bigger scars but there is a slightly lower rate of CC. They are slightly firmer than the more runny silicone but thats ok. Luisa x x

Here's something from some Mentor literature that might help: All of Mentor’s gel implants use gel that is cohesive, safe and aesthetically pleasing. We offer three degrees of cohesive filling material: • Cohesive I, the softest-feeling gel • Cohesive II, slightly firmer • Cohesive III, Mentor’s firmest gel The Contour Profile® gel is filled with the most cohesive gel to maintain its natural shape. I have Mentor Silicone Cohesive I-Cohesive I implants are the only ones available in smooth and I wanted smooth instead of textured.
I am very glad that I have silicone! (I am in the study)I am 2 months PO and already they are pretty soft and jiggle. I think they might even get softer, I dunno for sure. There is no rippling either. My husband is VERY satisfied with them-he thinks they feel pretty darn real. ![]() Quote:

@ anne, i too felt some rock hard titties on a friend who had hers done some years back. she was really excited about them and wanted me to have a feel - which was awkward! anyway, i went ahead and felt and what i felt seemed more like an elbow than a boob! funny thing is i think she said they were silicone

Hey,
I think I am going to choose silicone. It sounds like the one which everyone is most happy with. You have all been fantastic helping me make my decisions. Luisa x x

most people say silicone feels more natural as consistency is so much more like real breasts.. when you see your ps he will also tell by looking at you what to expect with either options ![]() but if you do have little breast tissue and are very thin on top, you probably will prefer the look of silicone

I switched from saline to co-gel (gummies) less than a year after my first ba due to rippling in the cleavage that I was having with the saline. I'm a big fan of my gummies because the ripples are gone but I do miss the "bounce and jiggle" that I had with saline. Not everyone has ripples in the cleavage...I started out with VERY little breast tissue and I weigh 106# so my chances of having ripples were greater.
Best of luck with your decision! |
