How many of you have a board certified ps?
Just curious how many people have a board certified surgeon. I know that there are many who are not, including Dr. Robert Rey from the show Dr. 90210, and yet he has thousands of patients who have great work done.
So if you didn't, were you happy with your results and did you feel comfortable knowing that they weren't? |

Mine wasn't, being in the UK, but I made sure to check he was registered with all the UK equivalents. If he hadn't been fully registered, I wouldn't have gone to him for my BA...

I'm surprised with the results so far! I would assume that at least a handful would not have one. Guess we'll have to wait to see more results.

Mine's double boarded as well. It's true that there are some older non-boarded surgeons out there who are very talented, but unless they had an outstanding reputation I wouldn't even consider it.

I would never have let anyone but a PS certified by the ABPS operate on me. It was very important to me. I let this person advise me, then I trusted her to cut into my body, add implants, and skillfully stitch me back up. I needed the security and safety of board certification. It made my decision to go ahead with the BA so much easier.

I agree with Slinky. Regardless of kind, surgery puts one into so many unknown risks. I would not get any medical procedure done, whether cosmetic or not, without proper certification, period.

My ps is ABPS certified. I wouldn't dream of letting a surgeon, or any other type of doctor, touch me that's not certified in their specialty. That goes for ANYTHING. I'm having my GB removed next week, and I've checked out my surgeon for that too, just to make sure he's certified by the American Board of Surgery.

My ps is certified, and I agree with Nikki and Slinky.
It's a huge risk having a non certified ps work on you, I would never even consider it. |

I voted Unsure because I'm not in the US and I thought it wouldn't be fair to vote 'no'.

Mine is most definitely certified, and also specializes in reconstructive work, for mastectomy patients.
I don't think I would have felt safe, had that not been the case. Besides, with the amount of money you're paying, and with the risks involved, I felt it was a requirement. This is a procedure that is going to alter your body, so I feel it deserves that kind of attention. |

I found my doctor before I found this website. I thought that board certified in cosmetic surgery was the same as being board certified in plastic surgery. Well, it's not. So the doctor I went to, although he has loads of experience as a cosmetic surgeon, is not a board certified plastic surgeon.
Luckily everything went smoothly and at almost 9 months I have had no complications whatsoever. However, now that I know how important it is to have a board certified plastic surgeon, if I ever do have complications down the road I am going to find a new doctor. I do like my doctor and think he did a great job, but I just don't want to take the risk. I am so, so lucky that everything turned out okay. In hindsight I guess that's why his rates were fairly low ($5000 for everything). But I can't believe I was so naive! |

My PS is double board certified also ABPS and ABS. I wouldn't feel comfortable going to someone who wasn't certified in the specialty area that I needed. For anything. He is also the Chief of Plastic surgery at St. Charles Hospital.
