I had general for my BA, and twilight for dental surgery (wisdom teeth removed). I see no difference in them. I was completely out and unaware with them both, and felt about the same afterwards. Twilight doesn't mean awake, BTW.. if done correctly by an anesthesiologist you should feel/appear just as unconscious.

Twilight is actually conscious sedation. You're not completely "out" (unconscious) like you are with general. Versed, which is used in twilight sedation, has an amnesia affect, so even if you do wake up briefly, chances are you will not remember it. Most people that have twilight sleep like babies through whatever procedure they have.

True..which is why I said you should "feel/appear just as unconscious". I should've worded that better. I was present for my 19 year old's wisdom teeth removal w/ twilight, and by all appearances she was unconscious throughout, as I was. I just didn't want her to think she would be laying there, eyes open, fully aware, ya know? I think those that "wake up" likely weren't treated by a board certified anesthesiologist..probably a nurse anesthesist that didn't keep the sedation drip consistant. JMO & experience. : )

I'll be having general. I've never been under before, but I like the idea of not being conscious while the surgeon is doing his thing!

I had General for my primary BA, I'm having twilight for my redo in 5 days.

GA makes me very sick and I feel crappy for days, and I hate the sore throat from the tube. I've had twilight for my wisdom teeth and honestly didnt know the diff btwn twilight and GA. Hopefully it will be the same this time.

I loved twilight...and yeah i woke up a couple of times during the process ..apparently i cranked my neck to see and asked the surgeon how the sutures were coming along ? (knowing im a nurse he laughed ,i think he kinda understood) ...and told nurse Dee to go back to sleep it was pretty funny ...but yeah a tad
But a definate to twilight...best sleep ever
Both have thier benifits ... i just dont like feeling so messed up after a general.
( Just to clarify this reaction is rare ...i am phrone to paradoxical reactions to sedation and anesthesia... so dont let this put you off twilight )
