![]() | silicone implants: rippling and mri?
I have been wanting to switch to custom silicone implants for sometime now. I've had 3 breast augmentation's each time going larger and overfilling more to try and reduce the rippling I have. I was just curious to know if any of you ladies have switched from saline to sils for this reason and if so did it help or do you still have ripples. Also how many of you actually go and have the mri done as they suggest you do with sils? Thanks all for your input.......

Hey girl! I haven't had saline..just silicone so I cannot answer the first question. However, I can answer the one about the MRI...I have had my implants for almost 2 years now and at first I was all about getting an MRI every 3 or so years as some recommend (because I'm a worry wart), but to be quite honest I probably will not. That's my personal choice...If I feel something is wrong or something IS wrong then I will get an MRI performed, but not until then or maybe in another 2-3 years I will. My feelings for the MRI changed once I got my implants...I don't know why but maybe after having them I don't feel as worried as I was when researching everything...I know it's a good thing to probably do, but this is just me! Good Luck ![]() PS -I don't have rippling with my silicones..knock on wood!

I've only had silicone and so far I can't detect any ripples. I will not be getting an MRI anytime soon. My PS explained to me that unless something seems wrong (or perhaps I get into an insane car crash and my chest hurts), I don't really need to. I have the new silicone with the cohesive gel so I feel pretty safe, not to mention MRIs are expensive!

i agree i don't have silicone implants but i am seriously thinking about switchng out my salines for cohesive gels. i'm not going to worry about getting an MRI unless i feel something is wrong.

Darn it! I misread and voted for the wrong one... i dont know how to change it.. sigh... well I meant to say that I do not have ripples, and dont plan to get MRI's as often as the FDA suggests. My surgeon suggested that it wasnt really necessary unless something was suspected, and that the possibility of it saying there was a rupture, even if there wasnt was kind of high. Based on the idea that if there were a rupture, it would be contained in the capsule, I'm not going to worry much, unless there are specific symptoms that suggest a rupture such as being misshapen, lumps, etc, at which point I would see my surgeon, and he would probably order an MRI for me.

I was wondering the same thing. I don't have implants yet. Will be getting silicone unders next month, and my PS told me that I dont have to go for an MRI either unless i feel that there is something really wrong. I know they are expensive as well. | |

Ack, I'm sorry I voted for the wrong choice too! I do not have ripples and do not plan to go for MRIs as often as suggested. Definitely if I feel something is wrong and maybe occasionally (every 5 yrs or so?) but not every year or two like they say. I accidentally checked don't have ripples and do have mris.

I voted I DON'T HAVE RIPPLES, AND I DO NOT PLAN ON HAVING A MRI. I will however get an MRI if something were to happen like a car accicent or something that would cause trauma to my chest. My PS also feels the same way. He was also apart of the study to get silicone implants back on the market.

I don't have any rippling and had virtually no tissue to begin with. As far as mri's go, my ps told me that the recommendation from the fda was "extreme," not to mention expensive. So, I won't be getting them done regularly, but I did come across this blog from a ps suggesting regular ultrasounds. http://www.plasticsurgeryinflorida.c...1_archive.html scroll down to the march 19 post They aren't as reliable as an mri. But, they are far more affordable, and at least you have some idea as to what is going on with your implant if there is a problem. You could always have an mri to confirm if a rupture was detected, but the ultrasound is a good starting point. Does that make sense? Hope that helps. |

![]() | ![]() I'm so glad i found this thread and thank you for the web site reference...i had not seen that before, and it helped to relieve my mind. I haven't yet had a breast augmentation but have little tissue and have had 2 PS recommend silicone to me...I am scared about silent rupture and MRI cost...nice to know there is an option that is more affordable....at least to start with. Thank you! |

I have textured implants and mine are overs so rippling was a huge possibility for me and I do not have any visible rippling but it can be felt. I do not plan on doing the MRI's not because they are expensive ( they are free for us canadians regardless) but because I just dont feel like it and dont feel they are necessary but if I felt something was wrong I would but I feel ultrasound is a better option anyways.
