mederma

Mederma for now (have had lots of success with it in the past) but will try Bio Oil if stretch marks appear.

I went a cheapo route but its working nicely. I replaced my steri-strips with Johnson and Johnson First Aid Advanced Care Advanced Healing Pads- they are the perfect size (I cut them in two) and I am pretty impressed. I am just 5 weeks along and my scars look really good. (Going into surgery my old scars looked worse than mine do now!) These are designed to be an alternative to bandages- its hypoallergenic (I have super sensitive skin) and they last about 10 days. I am almost done with the box ( 4 to a box) and I think I will get more. So far my scars are smooth and light. They are not adhesive like sticky but they really stay and you can't beat it for $6!!!

Here is a link to the product at Walgreen's:First Aid Advanced Care Advanced Healing Adhesive Pads | Johnson & Johnson | Walgreens

I bought some "Generation 3 Topical Scar Gel" by Scarless..I have been using it on my bridge piercing scar for a few days now so I dont know how its going to work. It has silicone in it and they said that is the important thing..I am not using it on my BA scars yet because I want to make sure they are completely healed before I do. How long should I wait?

I don't know how long either but I'll tell you what happened to me. I ordered some medical grade silicone strips to stick on to my scars because through research and from reading this thread it appeared this might be the best thing to do. I was about 2 months post-op when I tried them and I thought that my scars were healed but there were some spitting internal stitches poking through in a couple of spots. I applied the strips and on one side I got an infection where my scar turned bright red in spots and really, really hurt. I had some prescription strong anti-bacterial cream so I soaked in a hot bath each day and applied this cream religiously. It cleared the scar up thank goodness but obviously I didn't wait long enough or else I had an allergic reaction or something. It only happened on the one side although I had spitting stitches poking through (just a couple of spots) on each side. So I dunno. But I suppose if there is any opening still on your skin do not apply anything yet! As it is I'm now paranoid to try anything on my scars and I'd really like to fade the red. They are not hypertrophic like the first surgery and my new PS said internal stitches really help make better scars but that it is very important to watch that spitting and not to get an infection as that can be very, very nasty. Next time I see him I'm going to ask him when I can start putting something on the scars, and what exactly to use.

Yeah mine said I could start doing it at 9 days?! But that was the nurse. Shes told me contradicting things a couple times..I dont know if I trust her. Like she said I had to wear the surgical bra and strap for 2 weeks and at night 2 weeks after that but at my 1 week post op she said I didnt have to anymore. I was like hmm..

Well that is just silly. Yes one has to be very certain to get the correct info and then be very aware even still.

For those who tried Scar guard... Did it help? If yes, how long it took for you to see any difference?

I bought scar guard because my PS told me to use it ( my steris were removed today) but I am not sure for how long should I use it before switching to vitamin E or bio oil. Thanks in advance for your help

My ps told me to use scar guard also. I asked him about Bio Oil, and he said it doesnt work (i dunno...)

So far the scar guard seems to be "guarding my scar" but its only been a couple weeks, so I don't expect any major changes for a while.

In maybe 2 months I'll start vit e capsules,, for now I'm only using scar guard, and I'll use it until the bottles empty. hth

I used scar guard and I noticed a huge difference in a short amount of time within 2 weeks the scars went down considerably. It's been about 2 months now since I started using it and my scars are completely flat, but now I'm looking for something to lighten the scars.. any suggestions??

like I said im using this stuff called scarless and it has the silicone stuff in it. How long does it take to start fading the scar? I am using it on my incisions but also my old bridge piercing, which is a gross ugly red scar right between my eyes..and it hasnt really faded..how long should I wait before trying something else?
