![]() | Muscle relaxants
My surgery is this Friday, 8/13. My ps gave me prescriptions for pain, nausea, and antibiotics. He gave me a small envelope of Valium for muscle relaxants, saying to take one at night. I can see using valium for the first few days, but am wondering if there isn't some other muscle relaxant that would be safer to use over a longer period of recovery, particularly driving. I do know you need to be careful with driving and any muscle relaxant; I would not drive until I had taken the med a few times and was sure it didn't effect my reflexes and judgement. I will ask my dr. about this when I see him right before the surgery, but thought it would be good for me to have a little more knowledge when speaking to him. What muscles relaxants have you ladies had? What worked best? What worked without effecting your mental status? I am going under the muscle so I think the muscles will need a while to recover fully. Thanks. |

I just got mine done yesterday and the muscle relaxant I have been using is called Skelaxin..800mg take one tablet up to four times a day. It seems to be working great. I havent had much pain at all, but I have been taking the pain medicine as well. I just took it about an hour ago and I dont feel dizzy or out of sorts one bit. Good luck!!!

Kisa, I was given Valium as a muscle relaxant. I also went under the muscle. and had pretty strong pecs to start with. I only used the valium for the first three days and then really didn't feel I needed it any longer. I did not drive while I was taking it. Driving while on Valium is not a good idea. Of course, if you ONLY take it at night, I'd think it would be well enough out of your system by the next day that you could safely drive? Not sure on that. Mostly, I used ice packs when my boobies were feeling tight and achy. That helped me more than anything else. My frozen bags of peas were a life-saver, stinky tho' they got. I think I'd try corn if I ever need to again. Good luck on Friday! I am excited for you! Please do post when you are able and let us know how it went. Slinky |

I was given Flexeril 20 mg. And it helped more than my pain medicine after the surgery. I didn't have as much pain as i had pressure on my chest and muscles... I would ask you PS to give you some medicine for muscles spams, because the surgery causes a really bad discomfort on your chest, arms and breasts muscles.

Slinky, thanks for your reply and concern. Don't worry I wouldn't dream of driving while on Valium, which is one of the reasons I was asking about other relaxants. I've bought Thermalform breast gel packs which can be chilled and heated and are reusable. I used the peas with my face lift and the main problem I had was that one didn't mold around my whole face and two slipped and slided and were hard to balance. These gel packs are shaped to fit over the breast and they are plenty big enough to cover the entire area that might swell (I hope.) I'll be sure to post as soon as I am able post-op. Kisa |
