If any of you are new moms, I am hearing alot about no lifting for at least 2 weeks...How have you handled it? My son isn't too "new", he's a toddler (17 months) but still wants me to hold him alot during the day. My DH is taking 5 days off but that's all his work will allow, I am worried about hurting myself having to pick up my son sometimes during the day.

Did any of you have similar situations? Thanks!

My daughter was 17 months when I had my first BA. I had my BA on a Monday and he went back to work the following Monday when I was 7 days post op. My PS said I would be OK to lift her the week after, but I tried and didn't feel comfortable. I called my 17 year old nephew over to help me lift her in and out of the playpen and crib.

I was 10 days post op before I felt ok doing it slowly by myself. She also loves my attention, but we made out ok. Do you have a friend or family memeber nearby just incase you're not comfortable by the time DH goes back to work? Some people feel up to it doing it slowly by one week post op, you just have to take it easy and know your limits.

Thanks Ginger, it is comforting to know that I might be able to do some lifting after a week or so. I think I can manage, the only thing I am scared of is getting him in and out of his crib. Maybe he will just have to take naps with me on my bed!

I also do have a neighbor who could help me out in a pinch.

I was alone the day AFTER my surgery with my 4 year old and 20 month old. I just put the side of her crib rail down and put her stool next to her crib. She climbed right in with a smidgen of help from me. Same for getting out. I was given the okay to lift her after my 1 week check up, IF I felt comfortable.

My son was 19 months when i had mine done January 29th. I was very concerned about this as well and ended up having a much worse recovery than anticipated. I was told by PS not to lift him til my two week chk but was doing it by day seven. May have been even sooner. Its just not a reality for a mom to not pick up her toddler child. I just took it very slow and of course tried not to pick him up very often. The thing that bothered me most was actually trying to change his diaper. Must of been the way i had to hold my arms and use my muscles to do it.
