Question Shaving and Deodorant? What did you do? And when?

7 Days post-op...
Transax incision...

Can I shave now? The stubble is very irritating!

And when can I start putting deodorant on again? I have been using Desitin and it really helps ease the friction that irritates my incisions. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Oh gosh, I didn't ask and it wasn't in my post-op instructions. I shaved the third day and used just a little bit of Dove solid stick deodorant, not close to the incisions since mine are at the crease. I guess it's only a problem if you have incisions under the arm.

As long as your incisions are clean and dry (i.e. no discharge or drainage of any kind) then deodorant shouldn't be a problem. I would be VERY careful with the shaving though. I know it's irritating and itchy but if you can hang on for another week it would be better. The skin of your incisions should be "closed" by now but that layer of new skin is still very thin and fragile, it is really only a few cell layers thick at this point. If you shave too close to it you run the risk of creating little "micro" lacerations that could compromise the skin barrier. Use deodorant but try to tough out the stubble for another 4-7 days!

I have transaxillary incisions too, and I'm about 5 days post-op. My PS has instructed me not to shave or use deodorant until 2 days after the stitches are removed (which is on day 7).

It's pretty horrible, I can shower, but I feel like I still stink because I'm so hairy and can't use deodorant! I will feel bad for my PS the day he has to stick his face in my hairy pit to remove the stitches!!!

Hi, I wasn't given any particular post OP instructions on that - I've transax, too.
I started putting deodorant few days after I was allowed to take shower, so, it could be on around 4 to 5 days post OP? or maybe longer. When I did that, I put it carefully avoiding the incisions(around about half an inch away), though. I was using a stick deodorant that would not run with sweat but still I didn't put it directly on the incisions until they closed up & became invisible.

About shaving, I believe it was about a week post OP - due to the surgery & the incision sites, I wasn't able to lift arms for few days post OP, I could not even shave

I was told I can shave...how the heck
I do that...sure beats me as I'm still numb
and it hurts there still...so I'm hairy and so gross
feeling...was told no deodrant...but I kinda used
it the same way as little witch did but
only a few times...I wanted to use the hair
remover cream but it says not to on weak scars...
so that idea is out the window...

I got my underarms waxed about 3 days before my surgery.
It was great not having to worry about shaving.
I wasn't allowed to shower for a week.
I used alcohol on a cotton pad to clean under my arms.
I used baby powder to help with the sticky feeling.
After the first week I used deodorant.

I don't know how you can pull it off with the incisions there. I have peri-areolar incision and still have deep cavernous armpits that I can't really reach. The only thing you could try is to shave carefully avoiding the incision area so it's not super bad. As for deodorant I have no idea what you could possibly use. I feel for you the hair removal creams have been the best I can get and it's not all that great.

Ooooh that is good advice to anyone preop, you're a smart lady! Wish I had done that, I had to battle bottoming out and hairy pits all week!!! So gross!
