Question What is the back pain all about after BA?

I'm just 2 days from having my BA and I've heard a lot about back pain on this forum... I'm wondering what the back pain is all about? Why is that so common? Is it something that happens as a result of surgery or is from laying around during the days after surgery? Do most people go through this? Is it something that could be prevented? Just trying to get an understanding... would like to hear about your experience with this, thanks!

Smile I agree

I had my BA on thursday and my back hurt immediately...i dont know if it is the weight of the implants that I am not used to or, the muscles in your chest may possibly be connected to those in your back. As of now, I am sure that the reason my back is sore, or tense is because I am hunching over because if I straighten up and put my shoulders back, it stretches my incisions and tape and gauze and stuff. It isnt that bad though for me. Good luck!

i'm sorry, that sucks.... any ideas on why? could it be the body adjusting to the new weight on the top? just guessing here...

Your back muscles get extremely tight from lying/sitting upright constantly while also trying to adjust to the new weight in your front.

I was surprised at how bad my back hurt - still does but MUCH better. My PS said it is a combination of the extra weight, muscle connection, the position on the operating table and posture . I put a heating pad on my back that helped TREMENDOUSLY. My nurse massaged my back coming out of surgery because it was really bothering me. Also, when I don't wear the sports bra for a while my back starts hurting me again. My advice is a heating pad and good support. Also I'm having to retrain myself on posture.

On a different note - take a small pillow to put between you and the seatbelt for anytime you have to ride in the car. You'll thank me later! :-)

Good luck!

I've got a back injury so usually am in pain. I had different pain though like stiff muscles it's hard to explain. It was from the way I was using my muscles to get out of bed (my stomach got sore as well). Also from sleeping on my back - I'm a tummy and side sleeper so being on my back really messed my muscles around

update: well, my ba is over and low and behold i had lots of pain in my upper back between my shoulder blades. it was more painful than my breasts, by far. i used a heating pad in that area for about 10 minutes at a time every hour or two until it eventually stopped by day 2. now it's gone completely, even as i'm backing off the pain meds! great news!

Your back pain stopped at day two? Wow. I am 6 weeks out and my back still hurts at times, though not severe like before. My back pain was also worse than my breast pain!

Smile Mine too! Im on day 6

Hey There
Im onto day 6 today. Yay! And my shoulder/back is really annoyiing me on my left side with muscle pain. It feels like I need to get a sorts massage as there feels like a big knot behind it. It feels like an itch that you cant scratch doesnt it!

Did anyone go for a sitting up massage at all as Im tempted to try it. I have my first PO appointment at MYA tomorrow and the dressings removed so maybe Ill try it after that. Cant wait to see what they look like wihtout the tape!

Speedy recovery to you anyway
