Did anyone else have a very difficult recovery??
I know I'm not a drama queen (although my surgeon told me I was one when I cried and squealed at my post-op). I am still in so much pain four days out. They are tight, extremely sore, and doing much of anything (like showering) wipes me out!! I still have to take pain medication (on half of what I started with but still need it every four hours).
Am I the only one?

aww hon, I'm sorry you are having a difficult recovery.. but stay positive.. like you said, you may still be having to use the pain meds, BUT you are already using less of them.. and you are only 4 days post op. It seems odd, but the "norm" appears to be you are more in pain a few days after surgery, than the day after surgery... every day will get better and better... I would get tired really quickly, but as the days went by, it got easier and easier.. make sure you are giving your body enough nutrients and drinking plenty of water to keep your strength up.
Are you icing your girls? that helps... also, when you are showering keep it nice and warm-hot.. this helps relax muscles..

Aww sorry sweetie that you are going through this....but believe me, you are not alone judging from past recovery stories! So far it sounds like you are not experiencing anything too drastic...it's just part of the recovery and you are experiencing more pain than some, just keep up with your meds and seriously do not try to exert yourself, it will only make the recovery process slower!! Take it easy and please ask for and get any help you can!! Even stupid little stuff, don't be shy in asking for help!! It will get better! The first week is usual the worst but it does improve each day!!! But if there's something that you feel is odd, don't be afraid to call your PS just to make sure!

Blvd756 you are not the only one......what you are describing was exactly my Day 4 also. My day 4 and 5 were the worst days. I was definately still on pain killers every 4 hours. You let your body rest, drink lots of water and be good to yourself. Your recovery sounds normal to me. Some take 1 day and some take 1 month.
You are not alone.

I can relate!! I was awfully sore for the first week, although I did quit the pain meds just shy of one week and just kept up with Tylenol and Tylenol PM (the best for getting some sleep!). I was still tight and sore for a few weeks, and then it started to subside more significantly.
Pretty soon your skin and muscles will start to relax some and you'll experience a little relief. Try to be patient, but it is sooooo hard to do!! Hang in there!! |

It will get better! I had a pretty tough recovery, but within a week you will be feeling back to yourself, or at least close, hang in there.. you are NOT the only person to have a difficult recovery... sorry you are not feeling good.. sending healing energy to you.

I'm sorry your PS called you a drama queen. Everyone is different and if you are still in pain then I say take the meds. I had overs and took my meds until they were gone lol! I would say at 4 days a shower was still wearing me out too.
Give yourself some more time.

i can totally relate love! its not uncommon to start to feel pain after post op! you figure anesthesia starts to wear off then begins the healing...slow as it may seem but healing none the less!
the best advive i can give you is try NOT to compare yourself to others' experiences. it can be a bit frustrating when yu dont "seem" to be revovering "as fast" as others. youll have good (not so bad days) and days where youd ask yourself "did i do the right thing?" and/or "why/what did i do?" both are normal. and you might NOT experience either extremes but IF you do try not to be so hard on yourself. im speaking from my own experience : ) youre bodys been thru a transition (big or small-no pun intended!) but its a transition none the less! (smile) so ill say what im still trying to understand myself (hehe!) give yourself and your body time to heal and recover!

Yes, you are definately not alone. I laid in bed for 4 days only getting up to pee. I was so sore I couldn't even get online until day 3 but I still couldn't type. I was on here reading other womens stories some who had surgery the same day as me or the day after and there I was lying there barely able to hit the backspace! 2 nights in a row I remember calling my hubby (I stayed in my kids room cuz our bed was too high for me to get into) and just crying because I could not get comfortable! I am 6 days out now and I am only taking 2 muscle relaxers, and 3 pain pills a day. My antibiotic is all gone, one bottle of pain pills are gone and I think the mr are almost gone. Does anyone know if I am supposed to take the muscle relaxers until they are gone or just until I think I don't need them anymore?

You're definitely not alone. I was in alot of pain during my first few days as well. I remember when I went to my first post-op which was the day after surgery my PS showed me how to massage and even though it hurt like hell for the first few seconds it actually really helped to loosen up my supertight muscles. Has your PS given you the go ahead to start massaging yet? As painful as it might sound, it may help...
And like the girls have already said, don't worry it DOES get alot better. I was feeling more like myself after that first week. If all fails, look at your boobies in the mirror OFTEN! Seeing how beautiful your new tatas look make EVERYTHING worth it! <smiles>
