Sports bras hurting my incisions - suggestions?

*Argh* The day after surgery and my bras are hurting my incisions.
I tried a sports bra as well as a compression bra and they are both uncomfortable.

I was looking for a post-surgery bra that goes down farther before surgery but never found anything interesting (the one I ordered online *looked* longer, but wasn't). And my fears were right, I do not like the pressure of the band now.

Did any of you have problems with incision/bra pain? Did you find any solutions? (apart from Vicodin)
Wish some kind of bra existed that is like a tight tank/bra without elastic right under the boobs...

Ideas?

Thanks in advance!!
Groggily,
Bloom

Hi Bloom. I purchased the proper compression bras, but they tend to ride up into the crease as well. I actually have a pad over each incision site to stop the rubbing and pressure. I am a week out of surgery and still doing this. Makes it a whole lot more comfy.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find something to cushion the area with. It is quite painful. Think I'll call my PS or nurse tomorrow...

Wish I could find some kind of solution (apart from pain killers). Perhaps a tight (long) sports/yoga top with good support...dunno...but thank you for the suggestion

o god, its all coming back to me that terrible post op bra, which my PS provided. It was so painful the compression strap on the top made me feel like I couldn't breathe. I remember flicking it off now and then when my hubby wasn't look LOL. I had to wear it for 4 very looooong weeks, it didn't hurt my incisions, just heaps of pressure. See if you can find some bras that don't end on your incision, flow down to your ribcage , if that make sense.

I actually wear a 34band...probably should be wearing a 32..IDK, but I'm wearing a 36(DD) sportsbra and it's supportive enough w/o riding the incisions. I am able to pull it down enough to where it's comfortable...maybe you can try that?

That is a great idea - thank you!! Now, the only problem now of course is to get DH to go to Target and buy me a bra *lol*! Or maybe I should try online and wait the extra couple of days. Right now I have padded the area, which helps a bit (but mostly the Vicadins do). I'll try the 36 band idea - thanks so much!

*Argh* What a pain this is!! My PS just wants it to be a sports bra, not a specific on so I have alternated a bit, which helped (a bit). Right now I am in fact in a back opening one (Lululemon) because it is 'gentler'.
Good luck tomorrow and let me know what you find out! :-)

Lots of thanks and hugs

I had/have that issue too but went yesterday to a shop for a fitting (they specialize in post-surgery breast garments) and was told to wear the band TIGHT to keep it from riding up. It does help but it is TIGHT. I found the most comfortable bra for me is the Anita brand sportsbra's as the band is wide but stays down well below my incisions. I wear a 32 but I bought it in a 30" band and put it on the last hook. It's super tight but for the first time I wasn't tugging on my bra all day!!!!! It stayed off my incisions!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Might want to give that a try. They also told me that it is imperative during this recovery time to have lots of side support and she's absolutely right. When I have that side support I'm way more comfortable than when I don't.

HTH.

I know how you felt especially at night when I would be sleeping and tossing and turning it would ride up right on my stitches and wake me right up from the pain. I would suggest getting a looser band like if your a 32 get a 36 so it wont be as tight thats what I did and I also put gauze on top of my stitches to give it that extra padding and it worked I didn't feel like. I did tape the gauze down but it was with the medical tape. If you do use gauze and your chaning it out I would suggest pulling it off slowly because sometimes fluid does come out of your stitches and it will make the gauze slightly stick on you so pull it off gently lol.... cause if you rip it off you might be cursing up a storm. Hope this helps! and if you dont want to use gauze toilet paper works just as great and doesnt stick and if you dont want to use either I would really suggest buying a bigger band.

Nuby will become famous soon enough
I also taped gauze over mine. I got the large squares and folded them several times, used medical tape to secure them in place, and put my bras on carefully over top so that the gauze was secured partially by the band.

Thanks a lot! Yes, I'll go to Target tomorrow to see if they might have a biger band sports bra. In the mean time I had some left over nursing pads that I am padding the area with and it helps a bit. Vicodin is my best friend though today!
Thanks again!!

i remember how tight mine felt
My PS gave me the ok to wear any bra i like after 5 days. now i'm worried that was so soon compared to the rest of you. did anyone else's PS tell them that a regular sports bra was ok sooner?
as for the rubbing, I echo that taping a thick layer of gauze helped (as well as unzipping now and again for "air"!!!)

My PS has me in sports bras for 6 weeks, but fortunately I can alternate along the way. Found some cute ones, hehe! (lululemon) I am not in a hurry to get into the real bras, just want the pain to go away.
I'll keep padding the area, popping vicodin and call my PS in the morning
Thanks!

The rolled up gauze is the trick!!! Honest it is the only really good way yo stop the pinching pressure that you get when the band hits your stiches!
Good luck! I wouldn't go with a band that is much bigger... u need the suport untill they are healed! give it all time!!
