Is this normal or is it just me?

Hi Girls!

I am 5 days post-op and I am STILL having a very difficult time. I am no longer taking the Vicodin but only using Tylenol for pain as the Vicodin made me feel wonky. I seem to be experiencing severe tightness and mostly in my ribcage to the point where it is almost impossible for me to stand up straight. I am hunched over in extreme discomfort. I also notice that whenever I walk around my chest tightens up even more so almost like a boa constrictor was around me.
I read all the posts of girls who start to feel normal around this day 5 but not me. I am a very healthy individual and I am not understanding why I am in such pain at this point. Did anyone else go into Day 5 with pain and extreme discomfort or is it just me? I am hoping I am not having complications. I am calling PS office today. I am so depressed right now and there is a part of me that wishes I would've never done this....gasp!

hey lady, have you done any stretching or massage of any kind? i was getting that tight, constricting feeling too, but it seems to go away when i breathe in deeply and hold it and then exhale a few times or do some stretching. also using moist heat compresses has helped me too.

i've been back to work since day 3 and nearing the end of my day everything gets veerrrrry tight! when i get home, i immediately jump in a really hot shower and just let the heat take the pressure away. hope this helps!

You sound just like me at day 5. It took until the 2 week part for the worst part of the tightness to go away. I was also feeling a high level of discomfort (wouldn't call it pain, exactly but still very disconcerting) until sometime around the two week mark.
'
Call your PS office if you really feel concerned, of course. But I think you will be fine. It gets better, I promise. Try not to push yourself too hard or expect too much too soon. ReignofTerror's massage & shower ideas are great.

Good luck, babe. Keep posting.

Thanks Ladies for your replies. I actually called into the PS office today and it appears that most of my discomfort is coming from where my drains are and they are due to be out tomorrow. I am so ready for that because I am crouched over like an 80 yr old woman right now. Ugh! I am trying to be be more optimistic about this, too. I realize this is all a part of the healing process but man, it sure does suck right now. I feel as though my life has been put on hold with all this pain.

Day 5 was the worst day for me I think. It took me about 10 days before I started feeling good again. Hope you're feeling better soon!!
