Exercise @ 3 Weeks? HELP

I am anxious to start aerobic type exercise. When do you think I can start this safely? I am afraid to do some damage. Appreciate any advice.

Most surgeons discourage any exercise that will raise your heartrate until at least six weeks. I believe the logic is that the extra blood pumping through your veins presents an added risk for hematoma. My surgeon said I could do a little exercise - light weights and lower body at 2-4 weeks but to listen to my body and focus on rest rather than activity while I healed. I would definitely check with your PS anyway as most redo policies are contingent upon your adherance to their directions.

Editorial: I know you are raring to go, but how often do you really get to give yourself a break - I say enjoy the relaxation and make up for it later!

My PS's office manager has drilled into me that I am not to do anything strenuous for at least 6-8 weeks. She told me of a lady who was advised against doing aerobics at 3 weeks. This lady went against the advice and did it anyway. While she was doing step ups and pulling her arms up and back, her implant was torn from where it was settling. Needles to say she was in a lot of pain. Had to get it fixed, and it hasn't been the same since. I would definitely not be doing anything to risk damaging your boobies. I am frustrated because I can't do any lifting etc. I especially feel bad at work because I feel like I am not pulling my weight, but I will make up for it when I am healed. I paid a lot of money and I am over the moon with my results. I won't be risking any damage to my girls in any way.

Every PS is different. Call your PS and find out how much exercise you can do at 3 weeks. My PS told me I could go back to all exercise I did pre-BA at 3 weeks. I started back at 3 weeks. I starting jogging and weight lifting but I was in terrible pain. I kept trying every day and worked through it until the pain and discomfort disappeared. Listen to your body...if it hurts or does not feel right..stop.

i agree, every ps is different. i'm 2 weeks and my doc has encouraged me to go back to light cardio (NO LIFTING!) but walking on an incline on the treadmill, stairmill etc... he says that the pumping movement of my arms will massage the implants into plae. hmmm... then again, he also said I didn't have to wear a sport bra after 1 week, which is very unusual too. but i LVE my results and I love my surgeon, so i'm pretty happy. i wouldn't dream of lifting till 6 weeks though.

Definitely check w/ your ps because they all have different answers, experiences, and reasoning. Mine said I could go back to aerobic exercise at 3 wks and "do whatever I felt comfortable doing". Of course, I went at the cardio pretty darn hard, did light abs, and even a light (for me) leg workout. If you can imagine, I was pretty sore after 2 days! Yesterday I felt like my pecs were in a constant contraction and it made for a very long day at work

So, whenever your ps does OK cardio and/or exercises that don't directly involve the pecs, take it easy!!! Some movement (walking, swinging arms, etc) and bloodflow did seem to really help me a lot with comfort, softening, etc before the days I overdid it.

MY Ps gove the ok for anything after 4 weeks. I started cardio, running, spinning ect... I didnt lift until 6 weeks no chets for about 10 weeks and I wish I never worked out my chest, I think it stalled my process, I only worked it out a bit then stopped for a while then tried it again for a bit... BUt I just had a reso and dont think I will be working out my chest at all (other then what you get when doing other exercsies).

Oh I would also use 2 sports bra for any running, aerobics ect

As a fitness instructor (and avid guru), not being able to workout out now is very hard BUT.....I know that exercise will ALWAYS be there for me when the healing process is over. My body and the time, money, emotions spent on my BA are reliant upon HOW I care for myself right now. Just think, 3,6,8 weeks ..however long it may be is only a slice of time in your life NOT to exercise.
Why would one want to risk anything that has been done with your BA for a workout? Really ponder that....6-8 weeks is a blink of an eye in time and honestly, why take the risk when in a short period of time you can resume your physical activity and your body will respond so much better if you wait. Believe me.... I understand the desire to jump back into things. Cripes, this is the first time in almost 10 years that I have NOT exercised and yes, mentally is tough BUT....the rewards of waiting to heal are everlasting
