I had a crease incision. My doctor told me to massage the incision area several times a day. I'm also to put merderma on the area. I was wondering why I'm suppose to do this? What does this do? Does it help with the feeling in the area because I am numb there.

Mederma is used to help lessen the appearance of scars. My ps told me not to worry about putting anything on my incisions for a few weeks.

I do it, not because my ps told me especifically to, but to releave itchiness and discomfort...

My PS told me to start massaging the incision sites at 3 weeks. He also said it doesn't matter what I use as far as lotion, it's the massaging part that counts.

Of course the Mederma is for the scar appearance. The massaging will help break up any scar tissue that is trying to form at the incision site.
