Wink To Bra or Not to Bra - that is my question

I was just at the doctor's office and I asked if I could go without a bra for a couple hours while watching TV or sitting still - I've been in this beautiful (itchy) post-op bra for 7 days now. He said No - not to be out of it at all. Well, I'm sorry, but I have to wash it! He said I could wear a sports bra while it washes.

Now my question is --- why do some doctors say don't wear a bra at all and others say wear one all the time? Why do some doctor's use the strap and some don't (mine doesn't)? My girls need some fresh air!!!

I was also told to wear my bra at all times, but I called the nurse and told her how bad my surgical bra was smelling and she said I could go without it while I was washing it. She said to just be careful. I had ba and a lift.

Im so sorry to hear that your PS told you to wear a bra at all time
My PS told me not to wear a bra till they drop and that i should only be wearing the strap at all times an hour a day with it off is ok as long as i massage them daily.
But im sure that your PS know what he is doing and has seen his own results with is patients. Not every PS is the same !!
Well good Luck

I have no idea! I wasn't allowed to wear a bra or anything at all! Woke up post op had nothing on but my gown and some gauze/tape over the incisions. Cannot figure it out.

My PS says sports bra 24/7 the first month, then non-underwire bra for 3 months. I wish I knew what was best. My poor right side hasn't dropped and I'm coming up on 6 weeks

Every PS has different techniques and post op care advice. Not sure why... My PS was super strict. I was in my surgical bra 24/7 for 4 weeks but could take it off to wash and wear a sportsbra while it was in the wash. After 4 weeks, I had to be in a sportsbra 24/7 until week 6. After 6 weeks I was allowed to wear whatever bra I wanted.

I forgot to say that after a week I was allowed to sleep without a bra. Im 5 weeks post op and I still cannot sleep without a bra. My tape finally came off my nipple last night, super excited about that...Im just a wild sleeper and Im afraid I'll hurt my girls somehow.

It's so odd how they all differ so much. I was allowed out of my sports bra after a week - and could wear any bra that felt comfortable after that...

I too am confused as to why there is so little uniformity in post-op care instructions for breast augmentation.

For other surgical procedures there seems to be a professional consensus as to the proper course of treatment-- but not for BA. WHY? It makes me feel concerned that it's not based on medical research, but just on the personal preference of each individual ps.

Just for the record my ps had me in a regular store-purchased underwire from day one. (24/7 to start)

wow - an underwire from the start. Everything I have read said no underwire for the first 3 months. I agree that the lack of uniformity is disconcerting. I'm going to follow my ps's pland (mostly because I'm scared not to). He's been very strict.....

Ya my PS told me I should wear support bra for 6 weeks and due to my bad asthma and the bra it's not helping with my breathing her assistant told me as long as I wear something to support the breast it should be fine.. so now I just wear crop.

I have to wear my compression bras for 2 months. Then I am not supposed to wear underwire bras ever again.

No bra of any kind for me for 6 wks minimum. And NEVER an undewire bra at any time~ Even two years down the road..No underwires!

This all makes me wonder "who is right" or are they ALL right~

my ps says no bra for 3 months! yikes, if i must wear a bra (and I must at work) they said to make the straps extremely loose....the bra could not give any support at all...and take it off as soon as I got home. No strap either.

Yes it's really confusing!!! My first consult said a sports bra that zips in the front for 6 weeks post BA. The 2nd consult said nooooooo bra- don't want to be constricted.

I'm probably going with the 2nd PS but After reading all the posts I have concluded that I will wear some sort of a bra when I sleep since I know I won't be able to stay on my back all night long. I will also need to wear something when I go back to work, at a minimum a tank top with a built in bra under my clothes, but I'd really like to be able to wear a bra then. But I can't imagine being in a bra for 24/7 for 6 weeks- gross!

I had no bra and was told at my one week check up that I could start wearing a sports bra. I'm not sure what the reasoning is....
