Unhappy How Much Swelling is Normal?

Hi I am new (48 hours post op). I am concerned over the swelling I am experiencing.

When I went in yesterday for my day after appointment my Dr. put me in a thong bra to place extra support between my breasts (because that area was sore and swollen. He also placed a band/strap around the top of my chest to help move the implants down.

I woke up this morning and I have swelling from my breasts to the sides of my body (approx. 5 inches below my armpits). Basically the swelling is between the thong bra strap that wraps abount my ribcage and below the strap to move the implants down. It looks as though I am developing a very large bruise on both of my sides where the swelling is getting quite large. I have been trying to ice the swelling, but it does not seem to do any good but numb it for a short time.

Has anyone experienced this? Should I be worried?

Hi

I did not have the thong strap or wrapping, but for the first couple of days I had alot of swelling as well. Way under my armpits on the size, and in between my breast, going down a by my stomach. I did not put ice on them in the beginning, I put heat instead. I made sure I put a towel in between the hot bag and my skin so I did'nt get burnt. Everyday the swelling got better. Now, I am a coulple weeks out and the swelling is gone.

Hope that helps some.

Hi Emma. Congrats on your new boobies!!

I too experienced the swelling under my arms, as well as my boobies. I used baggies with frozen peas...I would pack them into my bra for 20 minutes at a time and it was heavenly! Felt better, but really the first several days not much helped reduce the swelling. The straps should help control the swelling as well as with placement. I think swelling is just a part of it. It does get better.

As far as bruising, I bruise easily...and bruised badly with my BA. I had a spot between my breasts that one day was hard and swollen, that I went to have checked out, afraid it was a full-fledged hematoma. The doc was not concerned, and the swelling and hardness went away after a few days. The bruise itself is still healing.

As far as being worried...maybe since you saw the PS yesterday you can be comforted that he isn't worried, and seems like he is doing what he needs to (the thong and strap). But as always, if you are very concerned, just call the PS.

Rest. DRINK FLUIDS...helps the most with swelling! And welcome to Boobieville!!

Red face Thank You for Swelling & Bruising Responses

Thank you for both responding! You have made me much less worried. I have a follow up on Tuesday, but your input helps alot.

The swelling under the arms & bruising was definitely concerning me. It is nice to know it is not that uncommon. And you are right - I have been icing, but it really doesn't make much of a difference, except numb it a bit.

Thank you again!

Emma

I had swelling under my armpits and up to my collarbone. it was not a pretty pics. I don't think you should worry, but if you don't feel good about it, call your ps and ask them!
