feeling good after exercising..finally!!
I am 7 weeks post op..I started to exercise two weeks ago and it just didn't feel right (bounce and couldn't do push-ups not a single one) maybe it was laziness too. I am just happy today I decided to get back into it and I am glad to say I was able to do 3 sets of push ups 40 in total (I used to be able to do 70 straight) not bad I guess....It felt great...
when I last tried it, it felt like my body was going to eject my boobs...very weird feeling...like the muscles were trying to push them out...yuck....Glad it's better....I feel normal again

That's great! I'm so mad because I STILL can't do pushups and I used to do them all the time. Maybe something's wrong with me

Yeah... but I'm coming up on 6 months... sooooo, I should be there by now. HMPH.
I'm happy for you though... I know hitting the gym again after my BA was one of the best feelings. It really helps you feel "normal" again. :-) |

Thanks for the hope!
Good to hear! I hope to be back to my exercising routine as speedy as possible but also a carefully as possible too. My PS told me yesterday that it might be good to stop chest work for now--I still have two weeks before me BA. Then no chest anything until at least four weeks post op. That's a long time without push-ups, flys, and chest press. I know it will be worth it--just hard to loose your routine.

It is tough to loose your routine...I started today but it's going to take a few weeks till I can do my full routine again....I was in great shape...now I feel very heavy and slow...kinda of a bummer...It's amazing how easy your body gets used to doing nothing....just glad I started

How long before you could do your full routine again (minus push ups)

I forget really. But I think it was at 8 weeks that I was running and doing cardio stuff like I did before the BA.

wait time
My PS said two weeks of nothing. Then slowly I can do lowerbody and biceps if it feels okay. Light cardio is okay post the two weeks also as long as I feel up to it, but it sounds like from others they had little desire to get moving yet. We'll see. He said at least four weeks post op for chest anything--depends on healing. He also said I won't be able to do the weights as heavy as I am currently.
My bigger issue will be how to exercise without boob support. He really doesn't want me to wear anything for at least six weeks. Not sure I want to go to the gym bra-less. He said we'd wait to see how we are dropping and then maybe give me the go ahead to wear a little support just for an hour to workout. I agree with you too that our bodies fall back into lazyville too easily. That cardio & weight capacity will be compromised and the lungs a burning! Just for a season though, right! I know I'll appreciate it all the more! |

Hey cici,
I'm 7 weeks post, too, and I just finished lifting weights about an hour ago, and I agree with you - I am FINALLY feeling relatively normal again. I first lifted at four-weeks post because that's how long my PS told me to wait, but I couldn't bring myself to do any pec exercises. I just felt too weak, so I did everything else, with lighter weights than I normally would use. I did pec exercises at 6-weeks post with very light weights and only two sets and it felt SO WEIRD! Tonight I added a little weight and did three full sets of ten reps, and felt fantastic! I mean, yeah, it still feels weird, but I didn't feel incapably weak like I have been. Except for bench press - I'm lifting 20 lbs less than I normally would. My PS said my pec strenght would be down about 30%, and would take about 3 months to fully regain. It's great to feel back to normal!!!

hi there. i had my ba on 1-4 and have been doing lots of cardio the last two weeks wo any problem. my ps said to wait til next week to do any weight training again. i miss that the most! i guess i will start light and build back up to where i was before. anyone know when it's ok to do abs? i had under crease incision with subpectoral placement and i know that the bottom of the chest wall hits the abs so i dont want to compromise but i do want to do abs asap. anyone know? thanks. great thread!!
