dissolvable stitches...
Hi ladies! How long did it take for your dissolvable stitches to dissolve? I swear I can feel a stitch under my scar (crease) but I thought they'd be dissolved by now. ???????? Thanks! -Laura

I think it sometimes takes a while for them to completely dissolve. Many women "spit" a stitch around 4 weeks or so.... so it'd be normal to still have them at that point. I think I still felt mine at about 2 months. But now they're completely gone.

From my veterinary knowledge your absorbable suture material will completely absorbed by 180d. (Because i assume that your surgeon would have used PDS or Maxon suture material and that is what it is for those materials). You shouldnt feel it though for that long.
(However it loses most of its tensile strength by 20-40days). Best advice is not fiddle with it- or it is an elizabethan collar for you!! LOL Rachael |

I had disolvable stitches, and still do. I am 3 mos post op, and I can feel one under the skin. My PS has removed one or two at every post op visit. She says sometimes they stay in there for 5 months!

Spitting a stitch is when part of your stitch sort of moves out toward your incision. Your body sort of rejects it. So eventually, it'll show up like a pimple at your incision site and then you can remove it. I guess they call it "spitting" because it's sort of like your body spitting out the remains of your sutures. I almost had this but it never came out.

Yes I had some internal stitches that needed to find their way out...just leave them and they will eventually 'spit' if theyre hard just keep them clean and moisturized
