18 days post-op: rock-hard incision??

Ladies:
My steri-stripes finally fell off today and can feel a rock-hard 2 inch area at my incision site. Nobody warned me about this and I'm not sure how normal this is? I'm happy that my incisions are smaller than I expected, but there seems to be this "roll" of hard tissue under most of my breasts that I didn't notice before the strips came off.

Does anyone know if this is normal or how to soften it up??

I think those are keloids? I have them too...I think some get it worse then others. I think Scarguard has been helping though

I had that up to about 9 weeks, now they have really softened and are finally starting to fade. The hard feeling is a normal part of scar healing

yes i am 1 month PO and the incision around my areola is hard. hoping they soften up soon

Thanks, ladies. I was so worried about the "tootsie rolls" and have since read a few other posts about that hardness at the incision point. The internal stitches could also play a role, so I'm going to give it time and try massaging the area when it is less tender.

As long as you plastic surgeon says it's ok then you need to start massaging it. Also try using scarfade (got it from plastic surgeon office) or bio oil to make massaging easier. What you've got going on is a build up of scar tissue (totally normal @ 18 days PO) & the sooner you start massaging, the sooner the scar tissue will break down and be absorbed back into your body!!

Thanks for this post. I had no idea! I would probably be freaking out too! My surgery is November 13 and I am learning SOOOOO much from you girls!
