How long did you take off of work?

I'm starting this thread to see how long some of you took off of work (or activity level.) My surgery is on a monday- I'm not returning to work until the following Wednesday. I bartend and use my arms a lot, so my plastic surgeon advised at least 9 days.

*Also how long did it take to return to the gym?

Thanks!

I only took a week, but honestly, should have taken 2 weeks. I'm an accountant, but I'm still using my arms a lot so for you, I'd think maybe longer. Just be sure to stay away from the heavy stuff!

Hope all goes well and you have a speedy recovery!

I had my surgery on a Friday, so took that day off. Recovered over the weekend, then I worked from home on Monday and was back in the office on Tuesday. I have a desk job though where I pretty much work on the computer or talk on the phone all day, so nothing physical.

I was told 6 weeks post-op I could start working out again.

I had my BA 6 days ago. I just got laid off a couple of weeks ago, so I don't have a job to go to right now (silver lining to being unemployed? haha) BUT I feel I could have returned to work yesterday. My job is/was in pharmaceutical sales, so lots of running around, but no heavy lifting required. :-)

I will say, however, that I am WIPED OUT in the evenings. I find myself going to bed a good 2 hours earlier than I did pre-BA.

I haven't had my BA yet, but I am taking 12 days off and my husband will be taking 5 days off to help me. I also work from home (blue cross to blue shield). So recovery should go well since I have a desk job.

I took off 3 weeks, and then did only small animals for a week. I am a pet stylist and use my arms constantly, and do heavy lifting.

I had a week and a half off work, and the week I went back I did 3 full days instead of 5 so I could ease back into it. I am feeling okay, just really tired, and the first few days I was a big woosey but nothing bad

I had my BA on a Saturday and went back to work on Wednesday. I was super tired and sore by the evening and I also went to bed really early for the first week or two. I started yoga again at two weeks.

Hi. I'm a waitress and went back to work at my 14 day mark.
I do have to carry quite heavy trays and reach to get stuff etc. and although i was okay my boobs felt really tight from the muscle when i got home.
Think i might've overdone it so the next day i told my boss i had a bad back (Told no one at work about my BA) and luckily she made allowances for me the next few weeks lol.
Good luck and take it carefully when you do go back to work

I took off 2 weeks. I just had my BA this past monday and glad that I asked off for the 2 weeks. I get tired easy but other than that feel pretty good. I am an xray tech and wouldn't want a crazy patient pulling on me or accidentally hitting me in the chest!

I took one week and really really really wish I had taken at least two!! I run a childcare facility so I also to a lot of lifting and bending. Also, once I went back to work I obviously quit taking my meds cause I didnt want to be out of it and I really could have used them a bit longer on occasions.

I have a desk job and had surgery Friday and back to work on Monday. I really felt great pain wise...a bit sore, but nothing bad! I was DEFINITELY tired though. My body was still recovering although I was feeling no pain. So I think it's good to take off some time if you can to just rest! I'm now getting past the tired phase! But FYI my husband went out of town when I was 5 days po and I had to take care of the little one and my oldest all by myself..which meant lifting her up (she's 20mo). I tried not to do it too often and when I did it wasn't horrible, but I was def sore at the end of the day. I would just try to keep my arms as low as possible...don't lift them up high or anything and you should be fine....just tired.

Woosey is a great way to describe the first week back to work for me (which was 3 po! I was not in pain but felt like I was on drugs (even though I wasn't!).....just completely out of it....LOL!
