Those w/ areola incisions...
I got the tape taken off mine yesterday and I'm super paranoid about them rubbing against the inside of my bra. My PS told me that when I shower to blot them dry...DO NOT RUB THEM. Well, aren't they rubbing inside my bra?
Was/is anyone else paranoid they'll cause their incisions to open after having the tape removed? |

I didn't have any problems with friction at my incisions. I did, however, have a lot of irritation/chaffing of my nipples due to my bras rubbing them. It was terribly unpleasant, and lasted 3-4 weeks. I hope you don't experience that! Good luck!

My areolas were completely taped for 10 days. Then my PS put steri strips on them and told me to leave them on until they fall off on their own, that was about 4 weeks post-op, I believe.
After the steri strips fell off I was fine. They were closed and I went about my normal routine and they never split back open. I would just keep an eye on them. I'm sure they'll be fine inside your bra. |

I'm the same way. I'm afraid that my incisions will split and get an infection or something. It didn't help that when my steristrips were removed at 3 weeks, one spot started bleeding! My PS had seen it and said if I was worried I could put a bandaid over it. If it's any consolation, I have been wearing bras, shelf tanks, and nothing and none of them bother my incisions. I find I have to be careful though because that area is numb so I may be leaning against something and not even notice it.

I sat around today without a bra on for about an hour so some air could get to it, and a nice little scab has formed there, which I am happy about. That's the only spot that looks like it could come open...I am sure it won't, but the rubbing on the inside of my bra made me think it could. Well, that's encouraging to hear that none of you had a problem. (or are paranoid as I am! LOL!) PS wasn't worried about it, so why am I? Guess it comes with the territory! |

I had some sterile tape very similar to the steristrips, so I put that over the spot and have left it there. It provides a little barrier between my clothes and I wanted to make sure it was healed before exposing it again. I know that it's probably not a big deal since my PS saw it and didn't even think it warranted a discussion, but it's hard not to be paranoid!

My steri strips fell off and I was without coverage for about 2 days (days 4-5after BA). At my next post op appt when PS took the stitches out everything looked fine (thank goodness) and now I have tape. I have no irritation or issues on my areolas at 7 days post op having been "exposed" for those 2 days. I did however have to put neosporin on my nips at least 3 times a day which probably helped. I've realized some stuff we worry about ends up being not much of a big deal once it's upon us. I'm sure you'll be okay but still be careful and call your PS with issues.

You'll be fine. Keep and eye on it but try to relax and enjoy.

try using the silicone straps on your scars.
you are supposed to leave them on a minimum of 12hours at a time i found it really helped the 1st couple of weeks with healing

I never had any problems with my incisions rubbing on my bra.
At about 6 months my incisions raised up significantly, I was a little worried, and then they proceeded to smooth back out. When I went to my regular dr. for my annual physical she didn't even know that's where the incision was, I had to point it out to her...don't know if the "raising and lowering" is normal, but wanted to give you a heads up on that. Congrats on the new girls. |

I'm 3 days post-op and he removed my steri-strips and stitches, but the largest part of the incision had/has glue on it, so that's what's protecting it I guess. He also told me to stop wearing the surgical bra and I'm supposed to go completely braless for the next three weeks. So I guess my clothes are going to be rubbing on my incisions? He didn't seem worried, so I won't either unless something happens.

I believe I wore the strips for two weeks. I also had drain tubes the first few days. It wasn't so much the rubbing on the incisions. It was the nipples rubbing. Oh my lord! My nips even shed (like you would when you get sunburned). Fun..fun..experience.
Not too worry though. It's all just part of the process. You will heal up nicely. |

I know that this sounds weird...I had crease incisions and my bra rubbed on my incisions too. My PS said to cut up a thin maxi-pad (because they are soft and they have the sticky stuff on the other side) and put them over the incisions and the other side would stick to my bra. I did that for a couple of weeks and then they were fine to go without. Sounds strange but it really worked! Julie
