CC and Dental cleanings???

Hi ladies, I have a question. I was just reading about CC in the risks section here. Does anyone know anything more about taking antibiotics prior to dental cleanings as a precautionary measure against CC??? I just had my teeth cleaned last week, and am FREAKING out now! It states that there is not significant data on weather this will put one at an increased risk of CC, but obviously there is some kind of concern there, or it wouldnt even be being discussed or brought up. It says to talk to your PS about this. I plan on it now, but its after the fact. Any input is greatly appreciated!

I am also a little nervous to go for a cleaning because I read the same thing.I did ask my ps about this and he advised you are not suppose to have a cleaning one month before your ba,as it increases the risk of an infection, but afterwards he says there is no problem. But as craazy as I may sound I have so many problems with my teeth that I'm afraid more intense dental work may cause cc.I hope this helps!!!!

I wasn't told about antibiotics and my dental hygenist knows that I had a BA. I've gotten 2 cleanings already since my BA and have no problems.

If you think about it.... if CC were caused by dental cleanings.... we'd be at risk every time we floss!!! (which is hopefully every day)

So, I'm not worrying about it at all.

I read about this before I had my ba and when I decided on my ps I asked about it....he said that it was only necessary to take antibiotics if you were having a DEEP cleaning not just a normal 6 month cleaning.
Hope this helps, let us know what your ps says

This tidbit of info might help someone. I have an appt on Saturday to get some cavities filled and my PS prescribed a combo of antibiotics to take for a total of 4 days before and after my dental appt. I also called the dental office to let them know my PS recommendation and they would have also presribed an antibiotic. I'm glad I checked it out and would highly suggest that when you're in doubt, call your PS and cross reference with the dentist too.

I really appreciate this because I didn't even know that. Better talk to my dentist about antibiotics before every cleaning now.
