Cost of Mirena withOUT insurance?

So I just found out that my *lovely* new employer does not authorize any kind of birth control on their insurance policy. And no, the year isn't 1950...

So I have been planning on getting a new Mirena IUD but now have to deal with paying for it out of pocket. Just wondering if anyone else had to do this, and what it might cost?

You might be able to get one low cost at Planned parethood or a county health center. One of my friends in Oregan got hers for FREE!!!

When I got a mirena, WITH insurance, I think I owed about 200 after insurance paid..so I'm really not sure. I know doctors always over charge the insurance company for things.

Good luck, I hope you can get one, IUD are really the way to go. Low side effects and you can't forget to take them like pills!

Around $600 (I had to pay for device and insertion). I love it! Well worth not having to worry about it every day (at least for me). Since it lasts 5 years, it comes out to be about the same as buying a monthly prescription for 5 years.

When I got it my doc told me that is wasn't always covered under insurance. To make sure it was covered she said that I had heavy, irregular periods and other bc didn't work. Unfortunatly the IUD didn't work either and I had a period for 4 months straight along with bad cramps. I had to have it taken out.

Go on the mirena website; there is a program where you can get it for free if you qualify. I found this out through my ob/gyn office. There is a form you have to complete and based on the # of people in the household and the income level(they don't verify anything), you can get one for free..They only give out so many each month.HTH!!

I have had mirena and now paraguard and I was able to get them all for free from a state funded program, but you have to be low income for it, or else i think you can pay on a sliding scale. You can try contacting your public health center. I had both mine done in Seattle. Wa is suppose to have the best state programs though.

I had one a year or so ago and when I was trying to get it my doc wanted me to pay up front then be re-embersed by my insurance. Needless to say it was in the neighborhood of $500-$600. Ouch!!! Finally got it and ins paid for it up front. But I ultimately had it removed anyways
Hope that helps....

The IUD cost between 500 & 600 and insurance paid for insertion. I love it and will get it again.

yeah--I had the same issue. Insurance did not cover IUD's so it was close to $500 out of pocket...but if you figure out how long it lasts compared to what you would be paying monthly for your pill packet you really start to see the savings add up. I loved mine!

Hi I paid about $100 including the insertion. It is fantastic so far, i have had it for about a month, i had spotting but no period when i usually would! so thats good.

What gets me is that your employer is ALLOWED to stop people from working there unless he can control their fertility WTF..?!? I can understand if u are an astronaut lol or more likely working with dangerous fumes all the time or something. What is the industry if u dont mind me asking??

Can you get it out whenever you want? Should you only use it if you are done having children? I am 20 and don't plan on having children for a few years (3-5 years) ... I hate taking birthcontrol. I always forget.. I do not want the depo shot (I have heard numerous horror stories..) Would I qualify for Mirena?

I went to the doctor today and found out that the Mirena would cost $1200! Needless to say, I opted to just get bcp's since they gave me several months of samples (my AWESOME insurance also doesn't cover bcp's). The dr wrote an Rx for bcp with a code for unexplained heavy bleeding so hopefully the insurance company will cover the cost of pills for medical reasons.

I am going to look around to find a "deal" on a Mirena. Thanks for your help and advice!
