Bobbi Jo's Breast Augmentation Story
Thursday, 07/18:
We dropped my kids off at my parent's house and left for Richmond at 8am. It was a stressful ride because we hit lots of traffic jams. We arrived in Richmond around 12 noon. The first thing we did was drive past
Dr. DeWire's office. Then we headed to the hospital for my pre-op blood work. We were at the hospital for 2 hours for about 15 minutes worth of procedures! The nurse who took my blood was so nice! They even called my hotel, Studio Plus, to get directions for us. She told me how great Dr. DeWire was.
Off to Dr. DeWire's office at 2:30. I was nervous!! We arrived at Dr. D's office
and, they took me back to him imaging room. I immediately felt at ease w/Dr. DeWire.
I knew that I'd made the right choice.
From there, I went into an exam room, put on a gown, had my husband come in. Then, Dr. D came in. He examined me and gave me heck for not doing a regular monthly breast exam on myself. Off to the imaging room.
In the imaging room, Dr. DeWire took several pic's of me. The pic laying on the table was the most hair raising..LOL! My left chest wall sits well below the right and is very sloped. We viewed my pictures, talked about possible outcomes, talked about my likes and dislikes, he showed me pictures of people who had complications (
bottoming out,
double bubble). In a nutshell: he was going to put in as much as possible, w/out compromising shape and risking complications, going for an intermediate look in fakeness. I had total faith in Dr. DeWire to do what looked best. He was pretty sure that I'd have regular, rounds. I left there feeling more calm and lots more excited!! And continued drinking TONS of water.
Friday, 07/19:
We got up at 5am. I was READY.... ready to have the surgery. Got to the hospital at 6am. I went into a room and changed into a gown. The nurse was very nice. Around 6:30, I said goodbye to hubby and was wheeled to the pre-op room. I was the first one in there. Six other women ended up being in there too - all having female surgeries. Several nurses asked me my health history and I had to read and sign a form about anesthesia. All the other women had their dr's in, except me. The one nurse told me that Dr. DeWire is always late. Arriving at 7:45. Around 7:20 the anesthesiologist talked to me. She was very kind. The nurse put some antibiotic in my IV. Dr. DeWire arrived at 7:35 - early! He came over, stood me up and drew on me. He talked to me for awhile - calming my fears. I also developed a rash, but he wasn't sure if it was from the antibiotic or from laundry detergent in my gown.
Then a nurse or anesthesiologist (not sure which), put a *cocktail* into my IV. Up to this point, all of the nurses that I had talked to said how great Dr. DeWire was and how beautiful he'll make me. Anyway, I don't remember too much after that. I sort of remember them wheeling me into the OR, it was foggy. When it was over, I vaguely remember seeing Dr. DeWire removing his scrubs and saying that he got 500cc in me - I think he said that in the recovery room.
I woke up at 10am in the recovery room w/a nurse sitting next to me. She removed the oxygen tube in my nose and asked how I was feeling. I don't remember feeling any discomfort, just felt funny in the head. She got me some ginger ale and a cracker. I kept that down. From there, I was wheeled back to the same room I started out in. My hubby was waiting for me. He helped me get dressed and told me that Dr. DeWire called him in the waiting room when surgery was over and told him that he was very pleased w/the results and that he put in 500cc
Mentor high profile saline breast implants. He also told my hubby that I'd have an easy recovery. He explained a few other things to hubby, but I'm not sure what all was said.
Hubby went for the car and drove it up to the outpatient area, while the nurse wheeled me out. While she was wheeling me out, I got really lightheaded and though that I was going to pass out. She said that I looked really pale. Thankfully, that passed and I got into the car and headed for the hotel. I was in awe of the fact that I ended up w/high profiles! I guess that I secretly wanted them because I liked the projection that they give. I know that I kept asking my husband 'are you sure they are high profiles??'. He got tired of me asking!
Back at the hotel, Studio Plus, my hubby put a quilt over the recliner w/some pillows and made me comfy. He phoned my mom to let her know it was over and I was doing good. I posted on
the forum soon after getting to the hotel. I remember sitting there and I kept falling asleep, waking up, falling asleep. I had minor discomfort, but nothing major.
I did get sick one time and threw up, but it wasn't that bad. I didn't sleep well Friday night, partly due to the pain med's and the discomfort setting in.
Dr. DeWire said that I had big implants and they would cause more discomfort than smaller ones. I slept propped up.
Saturday 07/20:
In the morning, it was really hard to sit up. It felt like sooo much pressure on my chest and when I leaned forward it hurt. I started to get bruising and swelling. I stood in the shower and hubby washed my lower body off and then he washed my hair in the sink. I felt really stiff. My arms didn't want to move, but I did dry my hair w/the hairdryer. Off to Dr. DeWire's for my first post-op visit. I was scared because of the massage. We were the last to arrive there - I think there were five other women ahead of me.
Sandy came out and called us back. She removed my wrapping and that helped w/some of the pressure. She also showed me what to do to loosen up my arms by 'walking' my fingers up a wall.
My left side was and is still the most sore. That's because Dr. DeWire had to do more work on that side. He said he had to do more 'tearing' to get the crease set up.
So, Dr. DeWire comes in, has me lie down on the table and he starts massaging them. Yep, I wanted to go through the roof. It did hurt. He was very good about it and just kept telling me to relax my muscles. He showed me how to massage and had me do it. At first, I was scared, but quickly got the hang of it. When the massage was done, I felt less muscle tension. He sat me up on the bed and sat in a chair and talked to my hubby and I. He said he was very surprised to get the 500cc HP in me. He said that it is a large implant for the first time and that w/large implants comes more discomfort. I just kept telling him that I was *thrilled* that he got 500 HP's in me!
What made me feel really GOOD was Dr. DeWire said several times 'those are going to be big and beautiful!'. I knew he surely meant it because he is a perfectionist!! I thanked him and we went to KMart to buy the 'tube' top strap. Yep, I have to wear the 'strap'. I'm in an underwire 24/7 for three weeks and the strap as much as possible.
Sunday
We went to KMart and bought an ace wrap. The tube strap was hard to get on and it felt like it was cutting into my armpits. Went back to the hotel and put the Ace wrap on.
Next, we went to the Williamsburg Pottery. I was there a half hour and my lefty started burning really bad. I wanted to cry. So, we went up an empty aisle, and hubby reached under the back of my shirt and loosened the wrap and took it off. Then, I stood there and massaged. Ahhh!!!! I felt SOOO much better after the massage! It really works!!
Monday
I returned for my second post-op feeling much 'looser' and not so tight. Dr. DeWire said everything looked good. He changed the tapes on my
incisions. My left incision was swollen, but nothing to worry about. He massaged them and this time, it didn't hurt. I showed him how I was massaging and he said I was doing good. I wanted to make sure I was getting the implant up nice and high in the pocket.
With each day, I feel better. I have twinges of pain and some discomfort. I'm taking ibuprofen as needed. At night, I take one Percocet. It seems that the morning and evening brings the most discomfort. The strap adds to the discomfort. I massage every two hours - sometimes more. For two weeks, I'll keep this schedule, then I can back off on the massaging a little.
My energy level is not what it had been. I
find myself taking naps. I'm taking everyone's advice and taking it easy for several weeks. As much as I'd like to get back into the swing of things, I'm going to take it easy. My husband has been WONDERFUL and supportive through it all.
I'll send Dr. DeWire my pictures at 6 weeks. Then at 12 weeks we are going back to see him!! I can't wait!
I hope this helps all of you pre-op girls. I've had such an easy and smooth experience. I want to put your minds at ease knowing that you will all be just fine being in the BEST of hands.... Dr. DeWire!!
Update!
Bobbi Jo is now 4 years post-op, and is very happy with her results. She
said would do it all over again in a heartbeat!
