Jill's Breast Augmentation Story
My name is Jill. I am 35 years old, married with 2 children under the age of 4. My quest for breasts began shortly after the birth of my second (and last) child. I made the decision to breastfeed my kids, and one of the end results was a smaller chest. I barely fit into a 34A bra. Don't get me wrong, I am so glad I breastfed both of my children, the bonding experience during this time is unforgettable. Once my son turned one, I found myself becoming more and more uncomfortable with my breasts. It came to the point I didn't want my hubby to see me naked, let alone him even think about touching my breasts. It was at this point I decided to look into plastic surgery.
I had the support of my husband, help and guidance from my sister-in-law who is a Nurse Practitioner, and Jen who is a member of the
Breast Implants Forum. She held my hand and helped direct me in locating a board certified plastic surgeon. She encouraged me in many different ways, yet always making me aware that there are
risks with this surgery. With her help, I was led to the website of Dr. Richard V. Dowden. A big THANKS to Jen!
At this point, locating a highly skilled, Board Certified surgeon who specialized in Breast Augmentation was my one and only focus. I was NOT hung up on location of the
incision. I knew Dr. Dowden was a skilled
TUBA surgeon, and I have to say I was a bit skeptical about this incision. After further research, I felt comfortable enough to schedule a
consultation with him. I was also blessed to find a number of his patients through the internet. I actually met up with 3 of his patients before my consultation with him. This was incredible, because I was able to see and hear first hand the experience of Dr. Dowden's work. It was at this point; I knew I had my hands on an awesome BA surgeon. I was so sure of his capabilities that I went ahead and scheduled my surgery before I had my consultation with him.
Consultation
Dr. Dowden breaks his consultation into two parts. First, I spent approximately 2 hours with one of his nurses to determine what size I wanted. I viewed a large photo album of his work. I originally was set on a C-cup, but after my
sizing, I left the office that day a D-cup! I did keep my mind open to going with a D cup, because of the many women who say after their BA they wish they had gone larger. Some of the literature I read from Dr. Dowden's office stresses the importance of going large enough. I can tell you from my experience I am glad I went with a D-cup. Of course, I ultimately put it in Dr. Dowden's hand to tell me if my body could hold this size. This brings me to the second part of my consultation...3 hours with Dr. Dowden. I had my first consultation on June 2 and did not meet with Dr. Dowden until July 6th due to child care challenges. You ask what in God's name would you do in a consultation for 3 hours. Let me tell you, he goes over EVERYTHING in detail. He went over all the pros/cons of Breast Augmentation and almost in a way tried to talk me out of it. He did this to me knowing that I had already paid my deposit to hold my surgery day of July 12th. There was NO WAY he was going to talk me out of this. I even asked him if he could do the surgery that day. No such luck, lol. We went over in detail the surgery, placement, size, and incision. After this was all finalized, I was sent on my way to wait another week, ugh.
Surgery Day
My hubby and I had an 80-mile trip to The Surgery Center in Cleveland, OH. I was so extremely excited and ready for this I was calm. I know I felt this way because I was at peace with my decision to have this surgery and even more assured of Dr. Dowden's ability.
I woke up from anesthesia and was like "Oh, my God". What is on my chest. The pressure was intense! Shortly after I woke I was asking the nurse for drugs, lol. Since I went with placement under my muscle, Dr. Dowden requires you stay overnight at The Surgery Center. What a blessing! I had nurses at my side with the press of a button. The next morning my hubby took me to Dr. Dowden's office before we made our journey back home. When I looked at my breasts while he was examining them I was pleasantly surprised. They were hard and shinny looking, but I was happy to see no bruising. I was sent home with a bag full of prescriptions and a strap over the top of the implants, which I was instructed to wear 24/7 until my next appointment.
Recovery
Once we arrived home, I went straight to bed and slept the day away. This time I had my hubby at my every need. To stay on top of the pain, we would set the alarm to make sure I would not miss any doses of my pain medication. By day three I was coming around and feeling much better. I think the key to a faster recovery is your attitude. I was so ready for this surgery I couldn't sleep at night. I knew in my head going into surgery recovery would be painful, but I was ready and willing to deal with it. By day six I was off all pain medications and feeling great. I was told not to lift for 2 weeks, so I hired a 13 year old to help with my kids while my hubby went to work. At my 2-week check up, Dr. Dowden was pleased with my progress. I ended up wearing the strap for a total of 8 weeks. I am a little over 3 months and thrilled with my results so far. I am a bit concerned my leftie won't be dropping much more. I shouldn't be all that surprised, because Dr. Dowden did mention to me during my consultation, my breasts were a bit uneven. Oh well, at least I have big uneven boobs now!
Overall, my experience was awesome. I am still trying to get used to my new look. I can tell you my self-confidence has been lifted to a new level. It's the most awesome feeling. But even more important than this is my relationship with my husband. He has been my rock throughout this process. He left all the decisions in my hands. He is an incredible man and I look forward to many more boobiful years with him.
