Nikki's Breast Augmentation Story

My name is Nicole, but everyone calls me Nikki, which is fine with me.  I'm 33 years old, married to a wonderful man, and have two beautiful children.  I live in North Carolina.

I had always wanted to have breast augmentation, but didn't get serious about it until after my daughter was born.  I had always been very small.  Before having my children, I could fill out an A cup, and even some B cups (if they were made really small).  However, after having children, my breasts lost what little volume they had.  It was very depressing.  My husband didn't seem to mind.  He never complained, and he obviously didn't marry me for my breast size in the first place (haha).  I simply got tired of wearing Miracle Bras that didn't perform any miracles.  I was tired of feeling self-conscious in intimate situations.  I was tired of looking like a grown woman with a 12 year old boy's chest.  Buying bikinis was the ultimate nightmare.  None of them fit like they were supposed to. Even the swimsuits with the enormous amount of padding didn't help my situation, because I didn't have anything for the pads to "push up".  I desperately wanted to feel comfortable with my body, so I decided to start researching breast augmentation.

After I had armed myself with plenty of knowledge, I started searching the internet for a plastic surgeon.  Since I live in a fairly small town, I knew that I would have to go to Raleigh, at the very least, to find a really good plastic surgeon.  My family, however, lives in Richmond, VA, so I searched for surgeons there, which is how I found Dr. DeWire.  I had actually found his site in the early stages of my research, but by this point, I was serious about having the surgery in the very near future.  Everyone that does research on breast augmentation will most likely have a preference as to what incision they want.  I had decided that I really wanted the transaxillary incision, as well as complete submuscular placement.  Dr. DeWire fit the bill perfectly.  But first, I knew that I had to check out his background.  I had to make sure he was board-certified, had a clean record, etc.  Everything checked out.  He seemed to be just what I was looking for, so I made an appointment to consult with him.

I was scheduled to meet with Dr. DeWire on October 2, 2000.  I arrived a day late, and quite embarrassed.   I had wrote the wrong date.  Thankfully, Dr. DeWire was available.  Lucky for me, someone else failed to show up for their appointment.  Dr. DeWire spent a good two hours with me.  He went over everything....the pros, the cons, and everything in between.  I was very impressed with how thorough he was (and still is).  He was also very down-to-earth, which put me at ease.  I felt very comfortable with him.  I think this is very important.  You MUST feel comfortable with your plastic surgeon, and you should trust him or her 110%.  After all, this person is going to be transforming your body into a new shape.  Choosing a really good plastic surgeon is THE most important decision that you make when undergoing any type of plastic surgery.  I made sure that I chose wisely.

I left the consult feeling excited.  I was armed with knowledge, had found a fantastic (and that's an understatement) plastic surgeon, and was financially ready to take the next step.  My husband and I talked things over, and 3 weeks later, I scheduled my surgery.  On November 23, 2000, Dr. DeWire performed my breast augmentation.  It was a very positive experience.   My recovery was not really painful at all.  I had some discomfort, but no real pain.  I love the fact that I have pretty breasts, and am able to wear anything that I want, and look good wearing it, without all of that bulky, uncomfortable, and HOT padding.  :)

My breast implant surgery had a huge effect on me.  It was a truly inspiring experience, in more ways than one.  The lack of confidance that I had regarding my body was now gone.  I no longer felt like a little girl trapped inside of a woman's body.  I am now able to purchase any type of clothing, swimsuit, lingerie, etc., and have it all fit correctly, and look good on me.  While I don't believe that breast augmentation, or any other type of plastic surgery, will automatically give you self-esteem, I do know that it can boost confidence.

Eventually, I decided that I wanted to share my knowledge and experience with other women. I had my own ideas of what I wanted to do.   I felt that I had a lot of really good information to share, and I still feel that way.  I only believe in promoting respectable plastic surgeons who truly are the best in their field, and have the immaculate records and reputations to prove it.  I am an honest person with a pretty big conscience.  I cannot, in good faith, recommend a surgeon that doesn't meet the standards that I just mentioned. I am very choosy, which is good thing, especially when shopping for plastic surgeons.

Thanks for visiting!
