Valerie's Breast Augmentation Story
About 4 years ago, I began thinking about breast augmentation. I went on one consultation, and knew that I wasn't ready to do it. I was only 18 at the time, so I decided that I would begin saving money and once I had enough money to pay for breast augmentation, I would consider it again.
So the day finally came that I had enough money and breast augmentation was something I still wanted. Naturally, I am a 36B, which isn't really small, but I have wide hips. I have always been shaped like a pear. I have always had to buy a small top and large bottom for a swimsuit. And I know that I could run 10 miles a day, and my hips aren't going to get any narrower. So I felt like getting breast augmentation would make me proportional.
I did a lot of research on the internet. I don't really know how to put a time frame on it because I would do a few hours of research here and a few there. I also know a few people personally that have had breast augmentation that I could talk to. Finding this site was very helpful. I got a recommendation on the site for the plastic surgeon that I ended up using.
For a few weeks before surgery, I was nervous and excited. The day of surgery, a Thursday, I got up and my mom and I drove 3 hours to get to my plastic surgeon. I was scheduled to arrive for surgery at 1:30 , but a nurse called and said they were running ahead of schedule and asked if I could get there early, and I could. We ended up getting there about 1:00 . When I arrived I was taken to the pre-op room and had to undress and put on a robe. Then I got a massage from a nurse, which is part of their policy to help relax their patients. My plastic surgeon came in and we talked about last minute things, mostly just confirming what I wanted. Then the nurse hooked me up to an IV and I started to get really nervous. Then I said goodbye to my mom and headed back to the OR. I walked into the room wondering if I should turn and run! But I didn't. I laid on the operating table and my arms were strapped down. Then the anesthesiologist came in and talked to me. And then I was out of it!
I woke up and the first thing I said was "where is my mommy?" I was still really sleepy, and I don't know how the nurse knew what I was saying, but she knew because then she called my mom back to where I was. I then tried to unzip my sweatshirt to see if I could see anything. But I was too out of it still and must have fallen right back to sleep. I was freezing coming out of OR and was shaking and shivering, which really hurt. After waiting around for a little while, my mom and I went to our hotel, which was only a block away.
That night was probably the worst, and it wasn't even that bad. My mom helped me out a lot, which really helped. I had pizza for dinner and was really hungry. I couldn't really get comfortable, so I didn't sleep very much that night.
The next day, my mom and I got up and drove back home. The car ride was a little painful because of the seatbelt and the bumps in the road. But by the time I got home, I felt good enough to stop taking pain medication. The rest of that day and for two more days, I relaxed a lot and watched a lot of movies. By Monday, I went back to school. Every day has gotten better as far as recovery.
Two weeks post op, I am just a little sore in the mornings and by night. As of right now, I am very happy with my results. Today I got to throw away old bras and old swimsuits and it felt so good! My clothes fit better and I feel proportionate. I have an hourglass figure instead of being a pear, and I am so happy about it.
Stay tuned for updates on my recovery!
