Breast Augmentation Scars
Surgical Scar Treatment
This section is only useful if you are one of
the few who happens to scar badly. Even so, many
women who tend to develop keloids still do not
have a problem with scarring after breast
augmentation surgery. This section is intended
for the few women who do have a problem. It does
seem, however, that silicone sheeting, which is
discussed on the
self-help page, does wonders for keloids and
hypertrophic scarring.
Steroid therapy
While steroid injections are not "surgical"
procedures, they're included in this section
because your doctor has to be the one to
administer the injections. With that being said,
intralesional steroid injections are typically
the first line of treatment. The most common
injected corticosteroid is Kenalog (triamcinolone
acetonide). It is usually diluted with a local
anesthetic for pain control. A series of
injections, spaced at 4-6 weeks apart, may be
necessary in order to get the best possible
result. However, the number of injections will
depend upon the individual. Oftentimes, laser
therapy is combined with steroid injections, in
order to get the best possible result.
Excision
In some cases, the scar may be excised, or
removed, then allowed to heal all over again.
Many times, other means of therapy are used in
conjunction with the excision, such as steroid
injections, silicone sheeting, etc.
