Male Breast Reduction in Washington, District of Columbia (DC)

Breast tissue swelling in men (gynecomastia) is caused by an imbalance of estrogen and testosterone, and the condition can be emotionally and psychologically distressing. Gynecomastia can be corrected with a combination of liposuction and mastectomy that remove fat and breast tissue.

How male breast reduction is performed

Male breast reduction surgery can be performed with a combination of liposuction, which removes breast fat, and mastectomy, which removes denser glandular tissue for a flatter and more masculine chest.

Your surgeon will make incisions around the circumference of your areolas and suction away fat using a rod-like liposuction tool. Your glandular tissue may also be excised using an endoscope and cutting tool. More incisions may be made to trim away excess skin if your breasts are very large.

Recovery

Most men can return to work after a few days and resume exercise after two to three weeks. Your surgeon will have you wear a compression vest to help you heal. You’ll have some pain, swelling, and discomfort, but this should subside after a week or so.

Costs

Costs of male breast reduction can vary depending on how much work was done, your area, and your surgeon. Anesthesia fees, surgeon fees, and health insurance coverage affect costs as well. Your surgeon can help detail these costs.
