Periareolar Incision in Twin Falls, Idaho (ID)
Your breast augmentation can be performed through
periareolar incisions, which are made around the circumference of your
areolas—the darker toned circular areas around your nipples. Scarring from these
incisions can be well hidden, but there are increased risks as well.
Advantages of periareolar incision
There are certain advantages to periareolar incisions.
- Scarring is usually well camouflaged by the
darker skin tone of your areolas.
- Your surgeon has good access to your breast
tissue, making surgery easier.
- The incisions can be reopened in future
surgeries, so you won’t have new scars.
Disadvantages
There are risks of tissue damage and other complications to
consider as well.
- In rare cases your scars may be more noticeable
if the incisions don’t heal well.
- The incisions can damage your milk ducts and
impact your ability to breastfeed.
- You may experience nerve damage in your nipples,
making them less sensitive or numb.
- The risk of infection is higher because your
nipples harbor bacteria that can be transferred onto your implants. Your
surgeon can use a protective sleeve around your nipple to reduce this risk.
