XL Breast Augmentation in Nashville, Tennessee (TN)

Extra-large breast augmentation may help you achieve your ideal breast size, but there are more health risks associated with large implants. The largest silicone implant available in the U.S. is 800cc, but manufacturers can make custom saline implants up to 1500cc or larger.

How XL breast augmentation is performed

XL breast augmentation surgery is usually done under general anesthesia, and the procedure is similar to standard breast augmentation. Your surgeon will make incisions near your breasts, usually along your breast creases, around your areolas, or in your armpits. Your surgeon then cuts pockets in your breast tissue and places your implants. Your incisions are then stitched closed.

Large implants can stretch your skin and breast tissue too thin. Your surgeon may add fat to your breasts with a procedure called lipofilling to help with this issue. Fat is liposuctioned from another area of your body, cleaned and processed, and then injected into your breasts. Your surgeon may also do stages of surgery to stretch your breast tissue and skin gradually by putting in larger implants every 6–12 months.

Common risks

The risks of extra-large implants are more significant compared to smaller implants, and may necessitate future surgeries and revisions. Your surgeon can explain the risks that you may face. Risks include:
  • Excessive breast tissue and skin stretching, including excessive sagging
  • Bad implant positioning and asymmetry
  • Capsular contracture, where the scar tissue around your implant grows thick and hard
  • Infection that can lead to other medical complications
  • Pain in the neck, back, and shoulders from the extra weight of the implants

Recovery after surgery

Most women can start to return to their normal routine after about one week. Your pain, swelling, and soreness will vary depending on the extent of your surgery and can last for a few weeks or more.

The cost of XL breast augmentation depends on your area, surgeon, and the extent of your procedure. Anesthesia fees and surgical facility fees vary as well. The size of the implants you choose usually doesn’t affect cost. Your surgeon can explain what your costs will be.

About Alton E. Ingram, MD

Dr. Alton E. Ingram is double board certified in Cosmetic Surgery and Facial Cosmetic Surgery. He has been practicing in Nashville since 2017 and joined the Toyos Clinic in January, 2021.

Dr. Ingram is a graduate of Yale University, where he received a degree in Mathematics and Philosophy, summa cum laude, as well as completing a premedical curriculum. While at Yale, he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and a National Merit Scholar. Dr. Ingram began his medical career at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he was a Southwestern Medical Foundation Scholar throughout medical school. He was one of three students in the country who “matched” straight into Plastic Surgery directly out of medical school that year. In 1995, he completed his Plastic Surgery residency at UT Southwestern, currently the number one ranked program in the United States.

Dr. Ingram continued his studies at the Rio de Janeiro clinic of Ivo Pitanguy, the father of modern cosmetic surgery and inventor of the Brazilian Butt Lift prior to studying reconstructive surgery at the University of Paris, Henri Mondor Hospital in France, where he worked under Laurent Lantieri, the surgeon who performed the world’s complete facial transplant. He then moved to Nashville to complete a fellowship in cosmetic surgery and breast reconstruction under Patrick Maxwell at Baptist Hospital, completed a fellowship in facial plastic surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, and attained board certification in Plastic Surgery in 1999.

Dr. Ingram’s love for cosmetic surgery was shaped by his broad experience early in his career. He developed an appreciation for the importance not only of restoring normal form and function through reconstructive procedures, but also of enhancing every person’s innate beauty through cosmetic surgery.

Dr. Ingram is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery and administers the Oral Board Exams every year. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, a member of the AACS’s Advocacy Committee, the Chairman of the ABCS’s Access to Safe Cosmetic Surgery Advocacy Committee, and a member of the ABCS’s Cosmetic Surgery Safety Initiative Committee. He is also a member of the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Tennessee Medical Association (TMA).

Dr. Ingram limits his surgical practice, focusing only on cosmetic and plastic surgery of the face and body – facial plastic surgery, surgery of the breast (breast implant, breast lift, and breast reduction), and body contouring (liposuction, abdominoplasty, and Brazilian Butt Lift). Having trained with some of the world’s best surgeons, Dr. Ingram’s philosophy is to perform only those procedures which he knows he can perform as well as anyone in the world, as well as those which have the highest patient satisfaction and the lowest complication rates. As such, Dr. Ingram does not perform every cosmetic procedure and does not perform injections or provide skin care or other ancillary services. Other people are better at these procedures, and referrals to excellent practitioners are available.
