I think this is very normal. Every surgeon’s operative technique dictates his or her specific postoperative instructions. So you should follow them or at least ask him / her if it’s ok to deviate from the specific instructions, based on the details of your surgery. I have about one in ten patients wear a band like this - usually when their lower poles are constructed or when we need to lower the inframmary fold on one or both sides. Every woman and every operation is unique, so it makes more sense to me to treat every case that way, rather than just doing the same thing every time!

This is normal. Most patients don't need the band as the implants fall down naturally over time when the woman stands. However, the band can be used for those situations where the implants are resistant to falling adequately.

Different surgeons will have different protocols. Generally speaking, even without downward pressure the implants will settle as the soft tissue stretches.
I don't universally use breast bands/bandeau. However for a high-riding device, it can be helpful.
As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

There are many different approaches to breast augmentation, and each plastic surgeon has his/her own protocols. Much of what you read online and hear is anecdotal and there is often little science to the recommendations.
The use of a "bandeau" or breast compression strap on the upper pole of the breast to help position your implants downward is not at all a requirement or standard practice. It is, however, sometimes recommended early post-op if the implant positioning (usually partially subpectoral) is a bit high and slight lowering/stretching of the lower tissues to more optimally locate the implants is desirable.

Wearing a band is usually not necessary, as your muscle should stretch and allow the breast implant to assume a more normal (as in, "not high") position if it has been placed under the muscle.
