About Gummy Bear Implants

Gummy bear breast implants are teardrop-shaped, textured, and silicone gel-based. They are thicker and known for retaining their shape and filler better than saline and traditional silicone implants, even in the event of a rupture.

Known also as highly cohesive gel implants, they are best for women who want volume and improved shape, coupled with a natural look and feel. Compared to other silicone implants, gummy bears are softer to the touch.

Perhaps the greatest advantage is the strength of the gel inside these implants, which makes them less likely to rupture and leak. But, when these implants do rupture, they often do so silently, making breaks hard to detect. For this, you will need to be screened via MRI 3 years after implantation and every 2 years thereafter—as you would with traditional silicone implants.

How gummy bear implants are put in

Your breast augmentation is performed in a hospital or outpatient surgical clinic under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes an incision along your breast crease (inframammary fold) or  nipple (areola)—armpit (axillary) and belly button (transumbilical) incisions are reserved for saline implants.

The pre-filled implants are slid through the incision and placed in a pocket created below the pectoralis muscle or directly behind the breast tissue. Unlike saline implants, gummy bear implants are delivered at size and leave no room for adjustments during the operation.
The breast tissue is layered with sutures, and additional stitching closes the skin. Adhesives or surgical tape are placed over the incisions to provide a barrier against infection and to prevent the cuts from opening. Bandages or a post-surgical bra are placed for support and promote healing by reducing swelling.

Gummy bear implants cost

Gummy bear implants are more expensive than saline and traditional silicone because of their thick filler and durability. By how much is best determined by speaking with a board-certified plastic surgeon, as the implants will be tallied in the overall bill.
