Are breast lifts a common procedure with a breast augmentation?

Yes, at least in my practice this is a very common combination of procedures. It is my philosophy that just lifting the breasts does not typically provide the overall look my patient's desire nor does it provide a long term result because the breasts can rapidly sag again. Performing a breast lift w/ some tissue reduction and placing a breast implant provides a long-lasting beautiful shape.

The question of combining procedures is ultimately dependent upon a number of factors, including:

—Technical considerations: Will one procedure interfere with the other? Anatomic concerns, contamination risks, positioning concerns etc...

—Recovery considerations: Are the expectations for recovery from multiple procedures reasonable? Will the recommendations for one interfere with the other? Back sleeping vs. belly sleeping etc...

—Safety considerations: Can the patient tolerate the additional stress and operative time? Is the patient healthy enough?

—Anesthesia concerns: Can these procedures be completed in a timely manner? (6 hour office OR limit)

—Surgeon preference: Does your surgeon feel comfortable performing these procedures in a single session?

With regards to your specific question, breast lift/mastopexy can be safely stacked during a single procedure. There are no significant technical or recovery concerns when considering these 2 procedures in tandem. Additionally, completing these within the 6-hour window should not be an issue.

One consideration is that of the competing nature of these procedures. The lift will tighten the breast envelope while the augmentation expands it. Thus, there are limits on both when combined. Pushing too far in either direction can lead to complications.

As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

These two procedures are commonly combined. However, if you want to go with an implant greater than 400 cc's, sometimes the procedure is performed in two stages.

Yes, the two often go hand in hand. My recommendation is to have hi profile saline implants (under 300 cc's) placed under the muscle.

Sometimes if the nipple is in a low position it is necessary for a better appearance. It is not uncommon to require a lift with implants.

Yes. For a large percentage of patients, breast lifts are combined with breast implants, especially after pregnancy, which often results in the breasts dropping. I usually try to perform the least one that I can, like a peri-areolar one.

Hello! Yes, breast lifts are very common with breast augmentation. Lifts help to reposition the nipple and tighten up the breast shape when there is sagging. This can occur from genetics, weight gain/loss, and/or pregnancy. Best of luck!

Thank you for asking. Breast lifts are a common procedure with augmentation. It is usually needed when the nipple position is lower than desired or the breast skin envelope is too loose to stay properly centered over the breast footprint or breast implant. See a board-certified plastic surgeon. Best wishes.

It i s not uncommon to need a lift with an augmentation if your breasts are droopy. This usually occurs after pregnancy or with extreme weight loss. Implants alone do not really lift the breasts. If your nipple or a significant amount of breast skin hangs below your natural breast fold, then you will likely need a lift. This is something that your surgeon should discuss with you at the time of your consultation. Some plastic surgeons prefer to separate the two procedures, while others are willing to do them at the same time.

Yes. If a women has a moderate degree of ptosis or sagging, she will benefit from a lift if she is having breast augmentation. If there is moderate ptosis and a lift is not done, the final shape and appearance may not be ideal. The implant will look high and the breast tissue will look like its falling off the implant. How much of a lift is done, and the degree of scarring, will vary depending on the amount of lift needed.

It depends on the surgeon. I perform more breast augmentation with breast lifts than I do breast augmentations alone. For others, they prefer to do them as separate procedures. It is always best to go to a specialist that does them because those that aren't have a higher risk of complications when performing them than either breast augmentation or breast lift alone.

This procedure for us, is very common. An augmentation-mastopexy allows one to lift, shape, center the nipple and tighten the extra (stretched out skin) all in one procedure. Find a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who preforms a lot of these. You should do well.
Good Luck

Yes, many patients need to have breast lifting performed and choose to have this at the same time as placement of breast implants. Each patient differs with how much breast lifting is necessary and so a good examination by an experienced board certified plastic surgeon is very important.
I hope this helps.

Most women that are undergoing a breast augmentation are not having a lift at the same time. However, that does not mean that it is uncommon or cannot be done together. It really just depends on what will work best to achieve your goals. In my practice, I would estimate that for every ten women that come in for a breast augmentation, two out of those ten will need a lift as well. I hope this helps.

Breast lifts can be performed with breast augmentation, if it is needed. It is not routinely performed. A breast lift is done if you have breast ptosis, or droopy breasts, this needs to be determined by measurements taken by a board certified plastic surgeon. Your plastic surgeon can then advise you if it is necessary.

I had breast augmentation 6 weeks ago and they seem to have settled but i'm unsure. I'm feel like they are too small. I have tried on bras and I measure into a 32DD as well as 34 C sister size (I was a 32a prior). How long will it take for my breast to drop and fluff? I also have a gap in between which makes it difficult to achieve cleavage.

It'd be very helpful if you share a range like 9-10k or 6-7k, etc. Thanks!
