Does high altitude (approx. 20 000 ft) have any impact on silicone implants?

I am a mountain climber and have planned a trip to Pamir range with possible ascent of a 20 000 ft mountain. I also want to have my post-baby small saggy boobs fixed, but I'm worried there might be problems with the silicone implants. However, if I only had a lift, there would be no breast tissue left. Should I reconsider the surgery all together, or is it safe to go to such altitudes with implants? Thanks for answering!

It's safe, but I only recommend saline implants. Look up the FDA pkg insert on silicone implants.

In our experience, high altitudes have no bearing or affect on a woman's breast implants.

Altitude doesn't significantly affect implant size or shape. You may notice a mild change at 20,000 ft but it will readjust at sea level.

I don't think the altitude would affect implants. People with implants fly all the time.

As a member of the patient safety, health policy and public education committees for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, as well having personally placed thousands of implants, I have never been made aware of altitude affecting implants. However, the deciding factor between a lift alone and a lift with implants should be the size you want to be. If you are unsure you can stage the procedures by having a lift first and placing implants at a future date.

Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative breast surgery.

There should be no problems with silicone breast implants at either that altitude or underwater. You may experience some difference in their fluidity. Some patients have told me that their breasts/implants become colder/or warmer before the rest of their bodies, but this usually returns to normality after their have come back to sea level. Hope this helps!

Breast implants have been around for over 60 years and they are safe at elevations (climbers) and also a couple of atmospheres below the sea (scuba divers). See your board-certified plastic surgeon for optimization of your choices and for the physique that you deserve and desire.

It is absolutely safe to go to high altitudes and low pressure areas as well. The implants are much more durable than many of your body's delicate tissues, and they can handle the altitude change pretty well.

Thank you for sharing. A lift may not need to remove any breast other than skin. It depends on your examination. The issue of implants in the mountains is more about placement with your climbing activity. The actual altitude shouldn't be an issue if healed. The under muscle position can affect the way the implants animate during climbing activity. Discuss with a board-certified plastic surgeon. Best wishes!

If there is too much loose skin and sagging, following pregnancy, then a breast lift is required. This procedure essentially removes excess skin to tighten and lift the remaining skin and breast tissues. The incisions vary depending upon the amount of skin to be removed. Some women benefit from a combination of these two procedures called an “augmentation-mastopexy." Natural breast augmentation uses your own fat instead of an implant

Hello and thank you for your question. That is an interesting question, and I don't believe it's ever been officially studied. I do not believe there should be any problem with silicone implants; however, as previously mentioned, there have been no studies in detail with breast implants at this elevation.

Silicone breast implants would be safe at altitude. Recovery after a mastopexy (breast lift) and a breast implant would be about 6 weeks until you would be healed to do anything, including climbing.

The altitude should have minimal effect on your silicone breast implants. However, this is a strenuous physical effort, and so I would highly recommend that you allow a minimum of 3 months for healing after surgery before undertaking such an effort. The stress in the incisions prior to the three month time limit could place undue stress on the incision lines and result in wound healing problems.

I had breast augmentation 6 weeks ago and they seem to have settled but i'm unsure. I'm feel like they are too small. I have tried on bras and I measure into a 32DD as well as 34 C sister size (I was a 32a prior). How long will it take for my breast to drop and fluff? I also have a gap in between which makes it difficult to achieve cleavage.

I had a breast augmentation on April 8th. I feel like they are shaped funny and not as big as I wanted. I went submuscular. Prior to the surgery, I was a 38 B and now I have 560 cc silicone gel Inspira implants. I was hoping to be a DD. Should I have gone bigger? Will my breast take a more natural shape? When is a good time to get a new bra, and will I be a DD once my breasts have settled and healing is complete?

I'm a little lost on the XL implants matter, that I personally like. Are they really unsafe? What are the reasons for that? It seems most PS don't recommend/perform them. Is it by lack of experience/expertise? Idealism? Are those PS who perform these procedures just "warriors" responding to a well present market? I know there is a vast amount of factors that go into breast augmentation, lifts, and implant manufacturer costs alongside anesthesia, facility, meds, and other costs. But in your experience what is a ball park cost range you typically see for breast augmentation, and breast augmentation + lift. It'd be very helpful if you share a range like 9-10k or 6-7k, etc. Thanks!
