I'm scared the altitude might affect the wound or implants.
You should not travel for your breast augmentation. Surgery should be performed close to home so that should you have a complication or question, you can personally consult with your plastic surgeon.

I recommend you stay for 1 wk for check up. Flying doesn't affect the wound or the implant. Planes are pressurized. There is no loss of air pressure, and it wouldn't affect an implant.

If you do not have any complications, you should be able to fly after about a week. Be sure not to lift anything over 10 pounds and limit arm movements as much as possible. Let pain be your guide. If it is painful, then stop. You should avoid any vigorous exercise or activity for the first 6 weeks. The altitude will not affect the implants, but some patients have noted that they feel that the implants expand just a little when in the air.

Every doctor has a time frame for flying. The determination is usually based on your healing, not the altitude. Go for your first postoperative appointment and get a release from your doctor. He or she may recommend no flying for the first week to 10 days.

I have patients come in from out of town all the time because I specialize in the armpit approach. We like to have them stay for a week to make sure that we don't have problems, but it depends on when they are going to be coming back also.

Thank you for your question. I have many patients who travel to South Florida for breast augmentation surgery. They typically stay for 5 to 7 days and return home without any problems. I haven't seen a patient have a problem with the altitude. I recommend that you travel with someone to help with your luggage.

You need 5 days to recover from the anesthetic and to avoid DVT problems. I would try to remain close to your doctor for one to two weeks.

I have many patients who fly in for their surgeries. You should ask your plastic surgeon what he recommends.

Great question. Since airplanes are pressurized, flying is not really an issue with healing. The time that you should stay in the area where your plastic surgeon is at will be best answered by your plastic surgeon. Often a week is a good time frame to get evaluated for healing in follow up.
All the best!

Two weeks is sufficient time before you fly back. The altitude will not affect your implants.

Good morning!
Two-thirds of my patients are from out of state or other countries, and most fly home 2-4 days after surgery!

The altitude will not affect the implants. How long you wait really depends more on the surgeon's comfort with his procedure and how quickly his patients recover. There is always a risk when you don't live nearby that there will be a complication after you are back home. The complication may be minor that you can take care of with some instructions from your surgeon, or could be major where you need to be seen by another surgeon or come back to the original surgeon. For breast implants, I prefer that patients stay in town 5 to 7 days, but I have had patients leave after 3 days and be fine.
