I keep reading that Sientra (using gummy-shaped) is the best overall quality implant choice due to its lower rupture rate, lower contrapture rate, softer edges softer, more natural feel, warranty, size options, projection, etc. But due to a halt on Sientra, my surgeon said I can use Mentor implants instead. Are Sientra implants really the best? Also, should I hold out for Sientra or move forward with Mentor implants? I want the best. Feeling confused.
I'm not sure what your surgeon means about the "halt" on Sientra implants. They are available but they are only sold to board-certified plastic surgeons. Yes, they are very high-quality implants with the best warranty program on the market.

Sientra may not be here very long. Allergan and Mentor are here to stay, which means that you get a company to back the warranty and to always stay on the cutting edge of technology.

I only use Mentor high profile saline because, in my opinion, the failure rate is very low (less than 0.05%/yr). Silicone tends to be more expensive and requires MRI's at 3,5,7,9 yrs post-op to detect leaks. MRI's are expensive and not covered by insurance. Under the muscle placement makes it difficult to tell anyway.

The Mentor implants have a long history of science and safety, so I would move on with Mentor and get a beautiful augmentation.

There is some question to whether or not Sientra's highly cohesive implants are truly highly cohesive. This website explains some of the differences in the three breast implant manufacturers and their "gummy bear" or highly cohesive implants: http://www.cohesiveimplants.com/types/.
All three implant companies warranty their implants, but they do vary on what is covered in terms of a spontaneous rupture or other complications. Mentor offers an extended warranty that covers more than the basic warranty. You may want to visit with your surgeon about the options and the difference in both the implant texture and rigidity, as well as the warranty programs available.

All the implant manufacturers are basically the same, and all are using the more cohesive silicone implants, which means that when and if they rupture, the silicone does not ooze out but stays together. Sientra is back in business again.

This is your decision--to wait or proceed. I have used implants from both companies with good results. I have not seen any medical literature that (independently) compares the implants and states that one is better than the other. Best wishes.

Mentor implants are fine and you can't go wrong either way.

I am very confident using Mentor brand implants. Mentor's current silicone gel implant has also been described as "gummy bear" implants in that the gel does not travel if the implant ruptures/punctures. Mentor implants come with a 10-year warranty and offer different warranty additions if the patient chooses.
I myself have not used the Sientra brand implants, so I cannot speak to those.

Capsule contracture can occur with any type of breast implant! No magic implants.......yet.

They are all good implants, but Mentor actually holds the title for best rupture and capsular contracture rates. Further, if you are interested in true 'gummy' implants, Mentor's gel is actually firm enough to be form stable, whereas Sientra's gel was soft enough to be used in their round and shaped implants. Natrelle's 410 implants have the firmest gel, perhaps making them 'the best' in form stability and least likely to ripple. Regardless, Mentor and Natrelle (Allergan) have products every bit as good or better than Sientra. You should talk to a few more surgeons regarding what your goals are to determine whether a round or shaped implant is best for you.

The anatomical breast implants that are fifth generation can be firmer and do vary between breast implant manufacturer. Typically, it would be beneficial to feel both in the office to help make a decision. Allergan 410 implants are also available and all have differing texture and feel. Mentor implants are slightly firmer, but when placed properly and with adequate coverage over the implant, this may not be an issue after breast augmentation with gummy bear-type implants.
