I heard that getting implants can make your skin stretch. I'm a model and don't want stretch marks but would really like a bigger chest!
It is difficult to predict if you will get stretch marks or not but it is entirely possible, especially if you are using a fairly large implant. I would seek consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options and these concerns.

Great question. Stretch marks come from damage to the skin. If you don't get excessively large implants, you shouldn't get stretch marks. However, with pregnancy there is no way to predict if stretch marks will develop.

It varies from person to person. I've seen one case. However, the bigger the implant, the more likely stretch marks are to occur. Be conservative and you should be OK.

It is possible for implants to cause stretch marks.

Each patient differs with how their body reacts to having breast implants.
Best to visit with well-experienced plastic surgeons who can address your concerns. Best wishes.

Stretch marks are usually caused by rapid growth or movement of the skin (such as during pregnancy, growth spurts in adolescents, etc). The placement of breast implants can cause stretch marks in younger women around 19-20 years old. However, every individual's healing and skin elasticity is different. You did not mention your age or if you have had children already. A history of having stretch marks could also be an indicator of how your skin reacts. I advise that you consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has experience placing many types of implants in a wide age range of patients.

Overstretching the skin can cause stretch makes if the skin is very tight (very small breasts), if there is a very large stretch (large implants), and if the patient's body is one that is prone to stretch marks.

Stretch marks are very uncommon so long as you are conservatively and accurately sized. Go to a surgeon very knowledgeable in "dimensional planning." That means that you will be measured and get an implant that fills you up but does not stretch you out. If instead you buy a bra you want to fill and see how much rice or water it takes to fill it, then you could end up with implants that would stretch your skin.
Big implants: big problems.
Small implants: small problems.
No implants: no problems.

Implants will definitely stretch your skin (unless it's already loose), but that doesn't necessarily mean you will get stretch marks. Whether or not stretch marks develop depends on your genetics, how large the implants are, how tight your skin is and, to some degree, your age. Basically, anytime you are causing a large change over a short amount of time, stretch marks can develop. This is why you see stretch marks around the arms in body builders, or on the belly of pregnant women. The areas grew so rapidly that the skin could not generate additional tissue fast enough and the existing tissue was damaged by the stretch, resulting in stretch marks. Obviously with implants, the tissue is stretched immediately, so there is always a risk of stretch marks. While it is not a common occurrence, you would be more likely to develop stretch marks if you have tight skin, want quite large implants, and you (or your family members) get stretch marks easily.

It is difficult to answer this question because everyone is an individual. If you do not have good elasticity, then stretch marks could be a possibility. Your skin will be stretched from the implants and it all depends on the size of implants you go with and your skin elasticity. Your best option is to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon. I wish you the best of luck!

Good morning,
Stretch marks fortunately are uncommon, but they occur most commonly in young patients with tight skin envelopes, very little breast tissue, and large implants. One way to help precondition your skin is to massage with moisturizer once or twice a day for a few months preop, and after surgery get on an early regimen of massaging your breasts with BioOil.

Yes, it is possible, but in my experience this has not been common at all, especially if you don't overstretch.

Usually, breast implants do not cause stretch marks. However, they can on occasion. It depends on the size of the implants and how resilient your tissues are when it comes to accommodating the quick expansion of the volume. Typically those pink stretch marks become invisible after a period of time and are well-tolerated.
Hope this was helpful. Good luck :)

Getting implants will make your skin stretch; however, you won't necessarily get stretch marks with an augmentation, unless you choose large implants. They have a higher risk for causiing stretch marks. A "natural" augmentation often leads to nice results without stretch marks.

I have not seen breast implants cause new stretch marks. Some patients who already have stretch marks may notice them more as they pay to attention to their breast area more. Extremely large implants for your body and breast type can cause new stretch marks. Sizing of your breast implants is very important and I would recommend having a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your specific case.
